Calaveras for Cannabis Control ("C3") Initiative Submitted

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/01/2016 03:55 PM
San Andreas, CA...Organizers of the Calaveras for Cannabis Control ("C3") Initiative announced yesterday that they believe they have met their goal of 1,571 voter signatures to qualify for ballot placement in the November election. "The response has been very positive," proponent Barden Stevenot said on Tuesday. "We've had people contacting us from all over the county to sign." "With the support of Calaveras voters, we exceeded our goal," states former Calaveras County Supervisor Merita Callaway, another proponent of the measure. "As we were gathering, we had an opportunity to talk with residents about the importance of regulating cannabis in our County. We submitted a total of 3,285 signatures to the Elections Office and are confident that we've met the County's requirements for ballot placement."

CUSD Threads The AB30 Needle & Calaveras High Logo To Remain The Same

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/26/2016 10:47 AM
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras High School was faced with AB30 this year which mandated the removal of our Redskin Mascot, which has been in place since the mid 1940’s. The dignity and pride that we have maintained in the use of our logo will not change. Our Mascot Selection Committee was comprised of Calaveras High School alumni, Calaveras High School staff, community members and most importantly Calaveras High school students representing each grade level. The committee chaired by Mike Koepp, CHS Athletic Director, asked for input from all sources that wished to submit their thoughts to suggest a new mascot for our school. All that data was gathered through an on-line survey as well as hand-submitted forms to our office.

AAA: More Than 38 Million Americans Expected to Travel This Memorial Day Weekend

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/26/2016 04:31 PM
Orlando, FL...AAA projects more than 38 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend. That is the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record and the most since 2005. Spurred by the lowest gas prices in more than a decade, about 700,000 more people will travel compared to last year. The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 26 to Monday, May 30. “Americans are eagerly awaiting the start of summer and are ready to travel in numbers not seen in more than a decade,” said Marshall Doney, AAA President and CEO. “The great American road trip is officially back thanks to low gas prices, and millions of people from coast to coast are ready to kick off summer with a Memorial Day getaway.”

CCWD Board Lifts Water Conservation Restrictions

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/25/2016 11:57 PM
San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors voted to remove all water conservation restrictions at today’s Board meeting (Read the resolution here), meaning all CCWD customers are now at a 0% conservation level. This decision came after the State Water Resources Control Board made significant changes to statewide water conservation emergency regulations on May 18, which now allow water agencies to set conservation targets based on local water supplies. CCWD calculated its supplies based on the State Board’s guidelines and determined the District does not currently have a supply shortage and, even if the next three years are dry, will not experience a supply shortage.
