Call the hotel at 209-286-1401 for details. We have many supporters who are dropping off food and clothing for those in need, and items may be picked up at the hotel. We are also working with other local relief agencies to coordinate this effort.

Calaveras Community Foundation Establishes Butte Fire Disaster Relief Fund

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Community Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit) has created the Disaster Relief Fund to provide disaster assistance in Calaveras County. The Foundation will be focusing on post-event recovery and is currently assessing how best to use its financial resources.

Angels Camp, CA....Angels Camp City Council recently made the decision to scale back their funding of Christmas events. The Angels Camp Business Association had to face the real possibility of not being able to fund all of their traditional Christmas events in Angels Camp this year. The Bank of Stockton came through with a $2,500 donation and on Monday a giant check was presented to ACBA. So now with certainty and a big Thank You to Bank of Stockton, ACBA can make plans with certainty for the 25th Annual Christmas parade, Pine Bough decorations and more....

Washington, DC...As part of the Department of Defense effort to partner with the private sector and academia to ensure the United States continues to lead in the new frontiers of manufacturing, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will announce today that the Obama administration will award a Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Flexible Hybrid Electronics to a consortium of 162 companies, universities, and non-profits led by the FlexTech Alliance.

Soroptimists to Offer Cash Grant to Women Seeking Financial Assistance for Educational or Training Expenses

Calaveras County, CA...Women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families and seek financial assistance to continue their education or receive training can now apply for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women (formerly the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards). Applications are available by contacting SI Calaveras, Vickie Smith-Becker, LYD Chair at LYDCalaveras@gmail.com. The application deadline is November 15. The Calaveras club will provide up to $3,000 cash grant to its award recipient, who will then advance to the Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region level, where recipients could receive up to an additional $5,000. The program culminates with three finalist $10,000 awards. Recipients can use the Live Your Dream Award to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training. This includes tuition, books, childcare, carfare or any other education-related expense.

Angels Camp, CA...The Washington Post ran an article on August 17th, 2015 citing a USDA study of all 3,111 counties in the contiguous United States ranking them in scenic beauty and climate. The purpose of this study was to predict the movement of rural populations across the nation based on desirability of location. Calaveras County ranked 14th and we’re delighted to boast that we came in 9 counties ahead of Napa (which was 23rd), and just above Mariposa, home of Yosemite..
