San Francisco, CA...Restore Hetch Hetchy put out a call to action in a special fundraising appeal to ‘outbid San Francisco’ for the rights to the Hetch Hetchy Valley last month and nearly 200 people responded bidding $63,684 – more than twice what San Francisco pays annually in rent to the National Park Service. The funds will support Restore Hetch Hetchy’s ongoing mission to return the Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park to its natural splendor while continuing to meet the water and power needs of all communities that depend on the Tuolumne River....

Murphys, CA...Eighteen men and women who are running for public office in Calaveras County will gather in Murphys Community Park on Sunday, September 28, 3 to 5 p.m. so that local voters can “Meet the Candidates.” The Murphys Community Club, in conjunction with the Murphys Business Association, is organizing the event as a new approach to neighborhood campaigning. “We think this is a great way for the residents of our area, in a stress free environment, to really get to know the people who want our votes,” say MCC President Sue Friedman. “There have been forums and other public gatherings, and the candidates have been attending events and knocking on doors, but here is a chance to interact informally with all the candidates in one place, at one time.”

San Andreas, CA...Three outstanding volunteers were recognized by The Calaveras County Commission on Aging on September 9, 2014 at the 2014 Senior volunteer of the Year Annual Luncheon. An enthusiastic group of more than 50 attendees congratulated Pat Bradley from District Three, Pat McGreevy from District Two and Leo Williams from District One. Supervisors Callaway, Wright and Edson each read the nominations which determined the winners of the event which started in Calaveras County in 1976. Each volunteer is very involved in so many aspects of community living here in the starting with the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum for Pat Bradley, the Calaveras Parks and Recreation Council for Pat McGreevy and the Covenant Church and Treats Market in San Andreas for Leo Williams. Their involvements are so varied and worthwhile....

Murphys Historic Hotel's Hotel Hell Premiere Party Was Heavenly |

Murphys, CA...Last night was the premier party for Gordon Ramsay's “Hotel Hell” episode featuring the Murphys Historic Hotel. It was a great night. Hundreds of locals packed the place to see who made the final cut during editing and onto the big screen. The owners of the Murphys Hotels agreed to do the show to promote and draw attention to the area. In reality the hotel's numbers had been steadily climbing so much of the premise of rescuing the hotel from doom was more about setting the hook for the show. The show needs problems to solve as the premise for the show. That said, the owners have implemented many of the improvements from the show and time in the limelight has elevated their game...

McCoy has joined the San Andreas-based Silver Oak Medical Office (SOMO) with Dr.’s Peter Oliver, Dean Kelaita, Shane Patterson, Sarah Grimes and Physician Assistant Ken Romans. “Dr. McCoy is a welcome addition to the communities growing health care needs,” said Craig Marks, Hospital President. “MTMC is committed to providing more and more needed services to the residents of Calaveras County and beyond.
