Washington, DC... Improved buyer demand at the beginning of 2015 pushed pending home sales in January to their highest level since August 2013, according to the National Association of Realtors®. All major regions except for the Midwest saw gains in activity in January. The Pending Home Sales Index,* a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, climbed 1.7 percent to 104.2 in January from an upwardly revised 102.5 in December and is now 8.4 percent above January 2014 (96.1). This marks the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year gains with each month accelerating the previous month's gain...

BOE to Consider Lower Excise Tax Rate for Gasoline Rate Could Drop from 36 to 28.5 Cents Per Gallon

Sacramento, CA...Members of the California State Board of Equalization (BOE) will vote on whether to lower the excise tax rate on gasoline by 7.5 cents during its February 24, 2015 meeting at 5901 Green Valley Circle, Room 207, in Culver City. If adopted, the 28.5 cent excise tax will become effective on July 1, 2015 and last through June 30, 2016. Currently, drivers pay 36 cents per gallon in state excise tax. State law requires the Board to set the rate for the coming fiscal year by March 1st of each year, following a complicated formula known as the “fuel tax swap.” More information and a video explanation of this process is available here...

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center hosted the February Chamber mixer at their new Heart Center. Introduced and welcomed was Cardiologist Dr. Courtney Virgilio. MTMC rolled out the red carpet for the event with great food and even gifts for attendees. State Senator Tom Berryhill was also in attendance and some of you may not know he is now a local resident having moved from Ceres to Twain Harte. Sonora, CA...The Sonora Police Department’s Awards Committee recommended the following individuals be recognized as Employees/Volunteers of the Year for the Police Department. On 17 February 15, all the individuals were recognized before the City Council and were presented certificates for their accomplishment.
