O.A.R.S Founder George Wendt Has Passed Away

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/12/2016 08:35 AM
Angels Camp, CA...It is with profound sadness that we share news of George Wendt’s passing. George breathed his last at 1:36 pm on Saturday July 9th, by all appearances in comfort and with relief. Surely, he was loved – by those in the room with him at the end, and by the many he touched with his gentleness and grace. George was a kind and humble man who seemed to take a genuine interest in everyone he met. He was a river pioneer, an adventure travel icon, and a conservation leader.

The 2016 Arnold Independence Day Parade. A Mile Of Small Town Americana!

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/08/2016 09:04 AM
Arnold, CA...The Greater Arnold Business Association along with many members of the community hosted another great Arnold Independence Day Parade. 4th of July weekend in Arnold is something not to be missed. The whole, little, mountain town is decorated in red, white & blue and the parade and other events renew one's faith in our communities and our 240 year old experiment as the world's greatest democratically elected, representative republic. There were many highlights of the parade but one special one is this year's parade marked the last the Cal-Fire's Nancy Longmore will be a participant in an official manner. She is retiring from Cal-Fire and will be missed.

The two 30 minute programs feature Supervisor Cliff Edson and former Supervisor Gary Tofanelli. The primary election votes were very close. Edson previously won the seat from Tofanelli in a 2012 election. Both are successful businessmen and neither attacked the other in the interviews, but focused on what they would do if elected.

Is It Time To Rethink Or No Longer Rely On Our Power Grid After Yesterday?

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/03/2016 10:47 AM
Arnold, CA...First and foremost Thank You to all of our fire personnel who do a remarkable job protecting our area every fire season!! The question is have we reached the point where we should start rethinking how we distribute the energy that powers our homes, businesses & recreation venues. Last year the unspeakable damage from the Butte Fire was sparked by a tree into an overhead power line. Yesterday, Angels Camp all the way past Arnold was without power on arguably one of our busiest tourism days of the year. This isn't anyone's fault (Except for the guy who started the fire while working on his pump). This isn't the first 4th of July weekend we have had this happen. Two years ago a slightly smaller power outage had a similar effect.

Counter Balance - A New Film from O.A.R.S., Directed by Gordon Klco

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/30/2016 10:11 AM
Angels Camp, CA...Counter Balance is a short film about giving back to the brave men & women of our military who have served us all. Too many have returned from deployments ill-equipped for civilian life, but on a 4-day rafting trip on the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument, veterans are given the opportunity to come together to laugh, to cry, and to purge it all among friends on an experience that taps into the restorative power of wilderness.
