A Sad Day & Last Day For Julliene Sproul At Avery Transfer Station ~ Letter To The Editor By Chuck Hetland |

Avery, CA...Monday March 30th was a sad day for Arnold residents because it was Mrs. Sproul's last day at the Avery Transfer Station. As the senior employee of GAMBI on site, she was recently offered the very worst job, sitting in a small outhouse checking identification at the gate, as mandated by the county. She declined, so now she will be applying for unemployment. Anyone who has used the facility knows how clean, pleasant smelling and efficient the transfer station has been during her tenure. We have Mrs. Sproul to thank for that. Please join me in recognizing her many years of fair, evenhanded service to our community.... |

Bret Harte Ranks In Top Five On Nerd Wallets Best Schools List |

Angels Camp, CA...California boasts some of America’s top public schools and competition for homes in these districts can be fierce. Take Piedmont, considered by some to be the best district in the San Francisco Bay Area. The average home price in Piedmont, according to Zillow, is $1,737,900. In Southern California, every single one of the schools in La Cañada Flintridge earned a perfect 10 at the popular school rating website GreatSchools. To buy a home there, be prepared to spend an average of $1.5 million. Both of these communities are well out of reach of the average worker in California, who earns about $1,100 a week, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
But there are hidden gems throughout the state — places where children can still get an excellent public education and home prices aren’t reserved for the very wealthy. NerdWallet crunched the numbers and found places for families who want strong schools near big cities or those who are looking to live in California’s more rural areas. |

CCWD Holds The Line On Rate Increases |
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/31/2015 03:49 PM
|
San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors voted unanimously Wednesday March 25 to postpone a rate increase scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2015. This decision will keep monthly water rates at $56.78 and sewer rates at $86.16 instead of increasing rates to $61.89 and $90 per month respectively. The Board reached its decision after reviewing reports from staff that pushed back the planning and construction timelines of several projects that are part of the District’s Capital Renovation and Replacement (R&R) program. All of the revenue generated by rate increases in 2013 and 2014 is reserved exclusively for the Capital R&R program....
