Gross Domestic Product Only 1.6% In 2016 & 1.9% For 4th Quarter

Washington, DC...Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 1.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the third quarter, real GDP increased 3.5 percent. The Bureau emphasized that the fourth-quarter advance estimate released today is based on source data that are incomplete or subject to further revision by the source agency. The "second" estimate for the fourth quarter, based on more complete data, will be released on February 28, 2017.
Sonora Area Foundation Announces The 2016 Irving J. Symons Award Winners.

Sonora, CA...Two Tuolumne County non-profit organizations were recognized for the significant benefit they provide to our community by receiving the Irving J. Symons Award presented by the Irving J. Symons Foundation, a supporting organization of the Sonora Area Foundation. The Smile Keepers program, providing dental education, school based preventative treatment and community education for the children and families of Tuolumne County, was recognized with a $25,000 gift. Below, Smile Keepers Coordinator Erika Hagstrom-Dossi is shown with SAF Board Member Tracy Russell and SAF Program Manager Lin Freer. A second award was presented to the CHP (Children’s Holiday Party), which in 2016 celebrated their 34th year as hosts of the annual holiday party for disadvantaged children living in Tuolumne County. The CHP received a $15,000 gift from the Irving J. Symons Foundation to support the purchase of bicycles for children attending future holiday events. San Andreas, CA...On Wednesday January 25, the Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors unanimously authorized two studies involving the Mokelumne River in Calaveras County. Peter Martin, CCWD water resources program manager, explained one study will evaluate the specific water supply reliability and infrastructure needs of the West Point community, and the other will study the long-term water needs for the areas of Calaveras County served by the Mokelumne River. ECORP Consulting, Inc. was awarded the contract to perform both studies and will team up with KASL Engineering to perform the work, which is expected to be completed in September of 2017. The cost of the studies is not to exceed $296,000, and the Calaveras Public Utilities District is partnering with CCWD to help cover the cost of the long-term needs study. New York, NY...The "Trump Bump" continues as the Down Jones Industrial Average has climbed past 20,000 for the first time. If past is prologue sometimes giddy highs are followed by a downward trend. We shall see...

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Ski Patroller Dies During Avalanche Control

Squaw Valley, CA...January 24, 2017 – 9:00 AM – A fatal incident occurred at Squaw Valley involving a ski patroller at 8:35 AM this morning during avalanche control activities. He was an employee of Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows. The victim’s name has not yet been released pending the notification of friends and family. An investigation is underway, and additional updates will be provided as they become available.

January 23rd Evening Power Update, We Are Down To 4,755 Without Power

Arnold, CA...After days of digging out and repairs we have finally dropped below 5,000 without power. That is now only 4,755 in the dark in Amador, Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties.

Arnold, CA...Upper Elevations in Amador, Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties are still suffering under wave after wave of outages. Some residents have been restored only to go dark again as another outage takes down a different part of the grid. Crews are doing a great job under adverse conditions and overall the numbers are down again. The list is below...
