The Discussion Draft Of "Better Care" Has Been Released By The Senate

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/22/2017 08:29 AM
Washington, DC...The Discussion Draft - Senate Republican Health Care Bill has been released.  View the Senate Republican Health Care bill here.Senate Republican Health Care Overhaul Proposal Seven years ago, Democrats imposed a risky health care experiment on Americans that led to skyrocketing costs and collapsing insurance markets.  Senate Republicans are working to fix the mess Democrats made by acting to rescue the millions trapped by Obamacare.  The discussion draft will:
  • Help stabilize collapsing insurance markets that have left millions of Americans with no options.
  • Free the American people from the onerous Obamacare mandates that require them to purchase insurance they don’t want or can’t afford.
  • Improve the affordability of health insurance, which keeps getting more expensive under Obamacare.
  • Preserve access to care for Americans with pre-existing conditions, and allow children to stay on their parents’ health insurance through age 26.
  • Strengthen Medicaid for those who need it most by giving states more flexibility while ensuring that those who rely on this program won’t have the rug pulled out from under them.

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/21/2017 12:33 PM
San Andreas, CA...The possible elimination of the Delta Gold Line, the intercity bus to Stockton, will be the topic of a public hearing held by the Board of Supervisors on June 27. The prospect of losing this resource is driven by the high cost of operating the service. Ridership has been consistently low. The Delta Gold Line began in January 2016. The bus runs twice daily on weekdays between San Andreas and Stockton, providing Calaveras County residents with public transportation to the Amtrak and Greyhound stations, Delta College, shopping, and medical facilities in Stockton.

Sonora Area Foundation Announces Record Scholarship Awards

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/21/2017 04:09 PM
Sonora, CA...Sonora Area Foundation announces that the 2017 scholarship season has been completed and record totals recorded. According to program manager, Lin Freer, “2017 Scholarships awarded total $371,000 with 170 awards going to 125 Tuolumne County students. This eclipses last year’s then record of $266,000 granted in 2016.” The bulk of the increase was attributed to local technology company Front Porch which substantially increased both the number of scholarships awarded and in many cases the size of the award. The company has a long history of supporting education programs in Tuolumne County and the relationship with Sonora Area Foundation was cited as a major factor related to the increased giving. “Sonora Area Foundation makes it possible to help meet needs in the community,” said CEO Zach Britton. “With the scholarships, they take care of everything; they track all the details, verify the transcripts and cut the checks. That would be a lot of work for us. They do a great job of doing all the legwork and they don’t charge any fees.”
