Bear Valley Announces Benno Nager as General Manager |

Bear Valley, CA...Skyline International Development Inc. is pleased to announce that ski industry expert, Benno Nager, has been appointed general manager of Bear Valley Mountain and Bear Valley Village, which Skyline conditionally purchased in August 2014. In this role Nager will be responsible for all aspects of managing the mountain, lodge and village properties, now named Skyline Bear Valley Resorts, Inc. A ski industry veteran, Nager has more than 30 years of experience previously serving as general manager at Snow Valley Ski Area in California, vice president of Operations at Goldmine/Bear Mountain Ski Area, director of planning for Mammoth Mountain and vice president of development for Intrawest Corp. at Mammoth Lakes and Napa. He spent the past six years in Switzerland as the COO of Andermatt Swiss Alps and founder of Alpine Resort Consulting, where he was leading the master planning and approval process of Switzerland’s largest single ski area development project...

San Andreas, CA....Calaveas County CAO Lori Norton, tendered her resignation to the Board of Supervisors last night. They have accepted her resignation and according to Assistant CAO Shirley Ryan, it will be effective December 31st of this year and she will be on leave for a good portion of that time. An interim CAO will probably be named at the next board meeting...

‘Building a Water Use Efficient Community’ Conference Scheduled |

Sonora, California, 9/29/14- In response to the ongoing Local State of Emergency due to drought conditions, and calls for significant reductions in water use, several organizations have come together to produce a conference called Building a Water Use Efficient Community. The free conference, open to the public, begins at 8:30 AM on Saturday, 10/18 and continues on Sunday, 10/19 in the Creekside Building, Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora. Governor Brown Signs Bill To Ban Plastic Grocery Bags |

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed the nation’s first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags – SB 270 – aligning state law with ordinances passed by a growing number of local governments in California to reduce plastic waste. “This bill is a step in the right direction – it reduces the torrent of plastic polluting our beaches, parks and even the vast ocean itself,” said Governor Brown. “We’re the first to ban these bags, and we won’t be the last.”

Calaveras Chamber Of Commerce Names Staci Johnston As New Executive Director |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has announced that they have hired Valley Springs resident Staci Johnston as the new Executive Director. As a former business owner, Staci Johnston says she's excited for the Chamber to build a better relationship with our business community no matter how large or small the business. “I have a deep commitment to make a positive impact upon our county as the Executive Director, and on behalf of the Chamber it is our goal to help build our new businesses as well as promote our longtime merchants within the county”, remarked Johnston. “I am looking forward to showcasing our business owners and recognizing their dedication to our communities and ultimately our county. New York, NY...The combined wealth of Forbes’ 2014 ranking of the richest people in America “The Forbes 400” (p. 125 of the October 20, 2014 Forbes magazine issue) is $2.29 trillion, up from $2.02 trillion in 2013 and the highest ever, partly due to the strength of the U.S. stock market. The average net worth of a Forbes 400 member is an astounding $5.7 billion, the highest to date, up from $5 billion last year. Net worth increased for 303 members, and decreased for 36 members. Cost of admission to the 2014 list is the highest ever at $1.55 billion, up from $1.3 billion a year ago.....

Some of the items on the agenda are: Adopt a Proclamation Recognizing the Work of the California Indian Manpower Consortium (CIMC), Adopt a Proclamation Recognizing the Week of October 5 through 11, 2014 as Latex Allergy Awareness Week in Calaveras County, Declare as surplus and approve the donation of kitchen equipment to the San Andreas Fire District, Approve the execution of a three (3) year lease agreement between County of Calaveras and Julia Moore, Donald Myers and Marcia Myers for Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency office space located at 291 Main Street, Unit A, West Point, California at $350.00/month for the period July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017, Approve the Award from the Office of Traffic Safety to Fund the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office "Reduce Impaired Driving" Program in the Amount of $156,903.09 for FFY 14/15, Approve the First Amendment to the Professional Services Agreement between Calaveras County and Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. for environmental services associated with the State Route 49 (SR 49) and Mountain Ranch Road Intersection Improvements Project increasing the not to exceed amount by $22,726 for a total not to exceed amount of $99,429 and a term ending December 31, 2016, Approve the First Amendment to the Professional Services Agreement between Calaveras County and Quincy Engineering, Inc. for environmental, engineering, and right-of-way services associated with the replacement of Dogtown Road Bridge No. 30C0051 and Lime Creek Road Bridge No. 30C0018 increasing the contract amount by $790,000 for a new total not to exceed $985,546 with a term ending December 31, 2018, Authorize the Purchase of Three (3) 2015 New Ford Expedition 4 x 4 Utility Vehicles, equipped to include electronic, emergency, and radio equipment, from National Auto Fleet Group, in the amount of $187,631.25, AB 109 Approve Calaveras County's participation in the Board of State and Community Correction's (BSCC) Recidivism Reduction Grant, Adopt an Ordinance to approve the zoning amendment from Unclassified (U) to Rural Residential (RR) for APN: 048-011-008, based on the findings included therein, Hold public hearing on claim of Lou A. Papais and Judie Cain-Papais, Trustees for the Cain-Papais Trust of 2002, for property tax refund for APN #034-052-025-000; (2) Deny the claim pursuant to Rev. & Tax. Code §§5096-97 for lack of jurisdiction and for failure to exhaust administrative remedies; (3) Authorize Tax Collector to review future property tax refund claims to determine whether claim meets minimum jurisdictional criteria for agendizing with Board of Supervisors and, if not, to summarily deny the claim.
