Steve Cox & Paul De Baldo Honored For Their Service To Bret Harte Students |

Angels Camp, CA...At their June 20th board meeting, Bret Harte Union High School District board member Gail Bunge presented this year's Parent/Community Volunteer Awards to Steve Cox and Paul De Baldo, both of Copperopolis. Nominated by retiring Agriculture teacher Roy Beck, Cox was recognized for his volunteer work with FFA and the Ag Department. Along with organizing and managing the See's candy fundraiser, Cox has been a regular figure at all of the Ag events, helping with planning, set-up, and clean-up. Cox spoke highly of FFA and how he wanted to give back something in appreciation for all the program has done for his daughter Amanda, a recent BH grad heading up to Chico to major in Agriculture Education.

Don has brought another fine dining establishment to our area and they focus on fresh, high quality ingredients exquisitely prepared. Dogwood's food takes center stage in their spotless display kitchen. The great meals along with a wonderful wine selection are served in a warm, welcoming environment. Mountain Ranch, CA...Almost $1,000 was raised by three area high school drama students recently who wanted to help survivors of the Butte Fire. “This is a wonderful, compassionate gesture,” said Allen Sender, Chairman of Calaveras Recovers, as he accepted the check on behalf of the all-volunteer group. Calaveras Recovers is the long-term, post disaster recovery organization focused on helping rebuild homes for the uninsured or underinsured families affected by last year’s devastating fire...

Forest Service Survey Finds Record 66 Million Dead Trees in Southern Sierra Nevada |

Vallejo, CA...The U.S. Forest Service today announced that it has identified an additional 26 million trees dead in California since October 2015. These trees are located in six counties across 760,000 acres in the southern Sierra Nevada region of the state, and are in addition to the 40 million trees that died statewide from 2010 to October 2015, bringing the total to at least 66 million dead trees. Four consecutive years of severe drought in California, a dramatic rise in bark beetle infestation and warmer temperatures are leading to historic levels of tree die-off.

Valley Springs & Angels Camp, CA...Over the weekend much was said on social media regarding the removal of the stored asphalt plant at the Hogan Quarry. At this time we are able to share the evolution of this project. The issues regarding the Asphalt Plant are complex and confusing. As county supervisors we have not been able to comment publicly up to this point or correct the misinformation being exchanged on social media and in the community for reasons related to county liability as well as possible legal issues.

Mind Matters Clinic Offers Programs To Help Children Progress in School |

Murphys, CA...Students who are having difficulty with their reading and language skills have a place to seek help thanks to two programs offered by Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic. Fast ForWord, a computer based learning program, will be available in Murphys and Sonora starting June 27. Mind Builder will be offered in Murphys starting July 5. The clinic is a comprehensive treatment center serving individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), and learning disabilities.

Sonora, CA...In December 2014, HealthLitNow, (www.healthlitnow.org) a 501(c)3 non-profit, was launched from the Tuolumne County Innovation Lab (www.myinnovationlab.org) to provide Public Health Literacy programs for K-12 students throughout Tuolumne County and the Sierra Region. Public Health Literacy is defined as the degree to which individuals and groups can obtain, process, understand, evaluate, and act on information needed to make personal and public health decisions that benefit their community.

San Andreas, CA...The deadline to submit a registration form in compliance with Chapter 17.95 of the Calaveras County Code regulating medical cannabis cultivation and commerce is 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Applications will not be accepted after that time. Applications missing any mandatory submittal documentation will not be accepted. Registration forms and mandatory submittal requirements can be obtained in the Planning Department or downloaded off of the County website.
