The lodging industry in Calaveras County continues to be blind-sided by the Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB). The CVB which receives the majority of their funding through lodging, and for whom lodging relies on to promote and advocate their business, announced their position to stand behind their decision to partner with Citizens for a Better Calaveras (CBC) which includes a select coalition of special interest groups to raise the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) from 6% to10%. The CBC special interest groups are: Calaveras Humane Society, Friends of the Calaveras County Library, Senior Centers of Calaveras, Calaveras Arts Council, Calaveras County Fair and Calaveras County Parks & Recreation Commission...

Washington, DC...Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in October suggests that economic activity and employment have continued to expand at a moderate pace in recent months, apart from weather-related disruptions. Although the unemployment rate has declined somewhat since the summer, it remains elevated. Household spending has continued to advance, and the housing sector has shown further signs of improvement, but growth in business fixed investment has slowed. Inflation has been running somewhat below the Committee’s longer-run objective, apart from temporary variations that largely reflect fluctuations in energy prices. Bear Valley Offering a FREE DAY! Thursday, Dec. 20th! Opening Day Moved Up!!

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Mountain, the Northern Sierra’s premier family skiing and snowboarding resort, today announced it will open one day earlier than planned and will offer a FREE lift ticket on opening day. Bear Valley originally announced plans to open December 21st, 2012. The resort has now opted to push the date to Thursday December 20th, 2012 just in case the mystical prophecy slated for December 21st, 2012 comes true. Free tickets will be issued at the resort on December 20th only, beginning at 9am. The resort plans to operate Kuma, Koala and Cub chair for the day offering a variety of terrain for beginners to expert. The resort is reporting 35 inch base with total snowfall of 84 inches of natural snow for the season and is currently making snow...
