Sierra stream fishing opened Saturday, April 26, 2008. It was a busy weekend as access to the Stanislaus River was limited to Calaveras Big Trees State Park and Boards Crossing Road in Dorrington. The Gate to Beaver Creek through Sourgrass crossing is now open. NCPA anticipates having Spicer open by Memorial weekend, depending on the snowmelt and weather. For an update on the road to Spicer you can call 209-728-1387. Alpine still has quite a bit of snow around it. Hobart Creek is not open until JULY 1ST 2008!....

Bear Valley, CA....The 3rd Annual Slush cup at Bear Valley Mountain Resort was another huge success! There were fifty snowsports enthusiasts who helped us usher out another successful season up in the mountains. Participants ranged in age from eight to seventy-two years old! We would like to thank all of our sponsors who helped make the day such an accomplishment. Our sponsors included Bear Valley Mountain Resort, the Bear Valley Lodge, Snowshoe Brewery, Gateway Press, Hatcher Winery, the Sierra Nevada.....

Copperopolis, CA.... Saddle Creek Resort, the gated, 900-acre Castle & Cooke community in the scenic Central Sierra foothills, will host the 47th playing of the Northern California Golf Association Senior Championship, May 5th and 6th. FORMAT: 36 holes stroke play, 18 holes per day. First starting time each day will be 7:30 AM. Contestants will play from the Black tees except on hole No. 14 where play will be from the Blue tee on Monday and White tee on.....

Bear Valley, CA....This year's Slush Cup Dual GS race brought out nearly 50 skiers of all ages for one last time for the 2008 ski season. The competition was stiff in both a number of categories and among racers from various categories, kids vs parents, old guys vs young guys, sibling rivalries.....all great fun. In some of the highlight rivalries, Mike clipped brother Tim by 5/100ths of a second. In the qualifying run, Alexis Habiger beat her dad, Ken, ....

Angels Camp, CA….All season the Bret Harte swim team faced hardships with lack of swimmers, and swimming pool, but that never stopped them from having a great time and swimming their hardest. During the league meet Bret Harte Girls tied for 5th place and the Bret Harte Boys placed 7th in league. All swimmers overcame challenges and beat personal records set during the beginning of the season……….

Murphys, CA....Stacy Apley is a cancer survivor, now on her second round of treatment. There has been a website set up for Stacy, www.swingforstacy.com. This website will keep the us all informed on Stacy's progress and also the fundraising efforts our community is involved in to help this family out. Stacy is a lovely woman who is married to a wonderful man and is blessed with three young children. She lives in Murphys with her family. The first fundraiser scheduled to be held is "The Stacy Apley Second Round Cancer Survivor Benefit Golf Tournament" with Dinner and Auction. It will take place on Friday, June 13, 2008, at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course......

New Melones Fishing Report for 4/21/08~By Glory Hole Sports

Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,436,802 acre-feet of water. The lake water level dropped almost two feet last week and is at 996 ft. above sea level and 92 ft. from full capacity. Water in the main lake is approximately 61-63 degrees. All ramps are in the water. Angels Boat Ramp is the shallowest ramp. If the water level drops another 21 feet, it will come out of the water, which it does quite often in the summer......

Angels Camp, CA….Speed in tennis is a strange mixture of intuition, guesswork, footwork and hair-trigger reflexes. Many of the players famed for quickness on court, win matches and strive to be the best. 60 students from league schools including Calaveras, Bret Harte, Amador, Argonaut, and Summerville got to participate in the annual novice tennis tournament.
