New Melones Fishing Report for June 8th, 2009~By Glory Hole Sports

Trout: bank anglers should head to the creeks, such as Angels or Murphys Creek, and use Power Bait or Pautski's fire eggs. Trollers are much more likely to catch kokanee right now, but we are seeing nice rainbows in mixed trout/kokanee limits. Most have been caught on kokanee rigs. As a rule, trout are 10 feet shallower than kokanee. Trollers should use shad or rainbow trout-patterned lures such as Needlefish, Kastmasters, Excel spoons, or a crawler/spinner combo from 20-30 feet deep over deep water in the main river channel upriver and in the main lake for rainbows. For browns, troll Rapala Countdowns or Trophy Sticks in rainbow trout or shad patterns, or roll shad, 50-60 feet deep (in the same areas, but closer to structure)......

Ebbetts Pass is now open. It was a busy Memorial weekend with aot of nice fish caught. Spicer is now OPEN. There are still snow drifts along the road so be careful as you drive in. Hobart Creek is off limits to fishing until July 1st. Lake Alpine has thawed and they are clearing the snow around the lake. Lake Alpine Lodge officially opened this past weekend. You can contact the Lodge at 209-753-6358. The campgounds are also being cleared. The campground phone number is 209-753-2671.....

Hwy 4 Corrider Fishing Report for Week of May 12 2009~by Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods

Ebbetts Pass is now open. Lake Alpine should thaw out by next week, but will still have snow around the lake. Lake Alpine Lodge will officially open for Memorial weekend. Access is limited to Calaveras Big Trees State Park and Board's Crossing Road in Dorrington. The NCPA anticipates having Spicer open by Memorial weekend depending on snowmelt and weather. For an update on the road to Spicer you can call 209-728-1387. If you are able to make it to Spicer, Hobart Creek is off limits until July....

Murphys, CA....The Murphys Dolphins Swim team is gearing up for another season. The team is open to all children ages 5-18 (they must be able to swim the length of the pool w/o help), who live along the Hwy. 4 corridor. We practice Tues-Fri at the Murphys Community Pool and compete against teams in Ione and Valley Springs. ....

Looking for local sports activities for youth and adults this summer? Be sure to check out what’s happening in volleyball and basketball, offered by Columbia College’s community education department. Starting June 15 and running through Aug. 3, an outdoor grass volleyball program will be held on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Symons Field on the college campus. Intermediate and advanced volleyball players of all ages are encouraged to sign up. Raelene Juarez, women’s head volleyball coach at Columbia College, is coordinator of the program.....

Arnold, CA...The opener was slow due to increased flow in the rivers and creeks and access was limited due to the snow-pack. There was still success stories for the opening day from the North Fork of the Stanislaus and Beaver Creek. Most of the fishermen that did well were using Panther Martin's and Rapala's. I would Like to also thank the Master-Baiters fishing club for all their support as they have been coming here for 26 years...
