Mind Matters Off the Beaten Path Fundraiser

Murphys, CA...Mind Matters is holding its 7th Annual Off the Beaten Path fundraiser on Saturday, April 28th in Murphys Community Park. The money raised will support those individuals and families who are affected by autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD. and/or learning disabilities. The event is open to all ages and includes a 5K walk and a 10K race. The 5K goes out to Ironstone and back. The 10K goes further out Six Mile Road and back. Medallions will be awarded to men and women in each of the four age categories in the 10K run. The walk is a lovely alternative for those who want to walk, stroll, and ride bicycles or tricycles. Families with those in strollers are also encouraged.

Augusta, GA...Patrick Reed has won the Masters. Reed claimed the Green Jacket on Sunday after shooting a final-round 71 to earn a one-shot victory over Rickie Fowler. Reed finished at 15 under, holding off charges by Fowler (67/14 under) and Jordan Spieth (64/13 under).

Bear Valley Places Third in NASTAR 2018 National Championships Team Competition

Bear Valley, CA...Squaw Valley, Aspen Mountain and Bear Valley on the podium at prestigious ski event. The Bear Valley ski team recently placed third in a field of more than 60 teams from across the country at this season’s National Standard Race (NASTAR) held at Bear Valley. NASTAR is the largest public grassroots ski-racing program in the world and Bear Valley, in cooperation with Bear Valley Snowsports Education Foundation (BVSEF), is proud to be one of just three resorts in California to host the program.

Washington, DC...From the US Census Bureau... Colorado Is Home to 1 in 8, but Vermont Sends More Per Capita! As we celebrate the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, we take a bird’s-eye view of population statistics of the 31 states U.S. athletes call home. This year, Colorado contributed the largest number (31 out of 244) of winter Olympians, making up 13 percent of the U.S. team. Not surprisingly, Colorado is the number one state for skiing establishments (40). However, California has the most sports centers, places that can include ice skating rinks, at 3,788.

Chloe Kim Takes Gold & Arielle Gold Takes Bronze for USA in Halfpipe

Pyeongchang, South Korea....From the US Ski & Snowboard Team.."Chloe Kim (Torrance, Calif.) made her long-awaited Olympic halfpipe debut and rode away with a gold medal. On her first run of the three-run final, Kim opened up with a 93.75 to take the lead over China’s Jiayu Lui, who scored an 89.75 on her second run to give her silver. On her third-run victory lap, Kim nailed back-to-back 1080s – the first in Olympic history – to score a 98.25.

Shaun White Reclaims Halfpipe Gold in Pyeonchang

Pyeongchang, South Korea....From the US Ski & Snowboard Team.."Shaun White (Carlsbad, Calif.) collected his third career Olympic gold medal, winning the halfpipe snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. White added PyeongChang gold to his Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010 gold medal collection. In addition, his victory was the 100th Olympic gold medal won by Team USA in Olympic Winter Games history. Team USA has also swept all four snowboard gold medals awarded this far at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, adding White’s title to both Red Gerard and Jamie Anderson’s slopestyle victories, and Chloe Kim’s halfpipe victory.

Rasmussen Classic Features Central Sierra’s Top Junior Racers for Slalom

Bear Valley, CA...On Feb. 10-11 the Bear Valley Snowsports Education Foundation (BVSEF) held the first Far West Central Sierra Series race of the season at Bear Valley Mountain last weekend. Racers ages seven to sixteen demonstrated their technical skills, racing slalom on Saturday and Sunday. Participating teams included Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, China Peak, Yosemite and Sierra at Tahoe. Excellent snow conditions, clear skies and cold temperatures provided a great weekend of racing.
