Hwy 50 Fully Reopened to the Public this Morning.

South Lake Tahoe, CA....Highway 50 fully opened to the public at 8am this morning. No permits will be needed for residents to gain access to properties not included on forest service land. If your property is on forest service land, please contact the forest service for access details.

97 New Covid Cases & Another Death in Amador County

Amador County, CA...Amador County Public Health reports 97 more individuals with COVID-19 since last Tuesday’s update, of whom 82.5% were unvaccinated. The cases include 26 children under the age of 18 years, 39 age 18-49, 13 age 50-64, and 19 age 65 and above. Since January 1, 2021, confirmed cases of COVID-19 total 1,745. There are currently 124 active cases. Investigation has also confirmed 1 additional death due to COVID-19: a male in his 70s. The County website now includes an epi curve bar graph representing Amador county resident cases. The vaccines continue to be very effective at preventing serious illness and death. Of the eleven (8 Amador residents and 3 from other counties) patients hospitalized locally with COVID-19, only one was fully vaccinated. Statewide, there is more than a 10-fold increased risk of hospitalization and nearly a 15-fold increased risk of death among people who are unvaccinated.

Amador County, CA – Amador County Public Health confirms the first 2021 case of West Nile virus (WNV) in an Amador County horse. Outbreaks of WNV occur each summer in the United States and are most commonly transmitted to humans and animals through a mosquito bite from a mosquito harboring the virus. Public Health officials remind the community to take preventative measures to avoid mosquitoborne disease.

Eldorado Sherriff's Office Make Arrest in Caldor Fire Related Crime Spree.

South Lake Tahoe, CA...Over the last several days the Caldor Fire Law Enforcement Security Team worked with EDSO Patrol to catch a looter who committed dozens of thefts from vehicles, garages, and structures in the evacuation zones, and stole at least two vehicles in the South Lake Tahoe area. EDSO deputies disrupted the suspect during an early morning crime spree, who was caught while fleeing a neighborhood in the Pioneer Trail corridor into the forest near Saxton Creek.

Hwy 88 a Key Sierra Nevada Roadway Opens After Closure From Caldor Fire

Alpine & Amador Counties, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and partner agencies reopened State Route 88 at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2021. The roadway had been closed between Peddler Hill and Route 89/Picketts Junction, and later from Peddler Hill to Kirkwood due to the Caldor Fire, which according to Cal Fire had burned more than 219,000 acres and was 71% contained as of Thursday, September 16, 2021.

More Caldor Fire Evacuation Orders Downgraded

Grizzly Flats, CA...As of September 16, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Evacuation Orders Downgraded, Effective Immediately in El Dorado County, Amador County, Alpine County. Evacuation Order Update: The following Evacuation Orders have been downgraded to Evacuation Warnings in Amador County: Zones 4A and 5A. South of Highway 88 along the Amador/El Dorado County line from Dufrene Road, due east to the Amador/Alpine County line and from the Amador/Alpine County line north to Hwy 88. The following Evacuation Warnings have been lifted in Amador County: Zones 4B and 5B. South of Dufrene Road due east to the Amador/Alpine County line. West of the of the Amador/Alpine County line and north of the Amador/Calaveras County line. Concluding with a western border of Panther Creek Road. The following Evacuation Warnings have been lifted in Alpine County: Zone 19 and 20. Highway 88 Picket’s Junction south to Kirkwood and the Alpine/Amador County line. Wilderness and forested areas south of 88 and west of Blue Lakes.

Caldor Fire Reaches 67% Containment, Heat Map Getting Colder, Eyes Turn to Getting 50 & 88 Opened Back Up

South Lake Tahoe, CA...East Zone Situation Summary: Winds along the ridges remained out of the southwest with gusts around 25 mph in the evening becoming southerly with gusts around 15 mph by the morning. Winds over the majority of the fire area become downslope as the sun sets with speeds around 3 to 5 mph. Overnight, the structure group located in Christmas Valley and Division AA continued to patrol, backhaul all unneeded supplies and remained available for calls for service. Division QQ patrolled and suppressed hot spots within the current footprint and mopped up to the degree it was safe to do so. Division PP worked through the night plumbing 2000 feet of hose line.
