Amador County, CA...Foothill Conservancy invites everyone to join in the 2021 Mokelumne River Cleanup on Saturday, September 18, from 9 a.m. until noon. The event will focus on the Mokelumne Electra Run south of Jackson, the most popular section of the river. The annual, family-friendly event gives people an opportunity to protect the Mokelumne’s water quality and clean up recreational sites while enjoying a beautiful morning along California’s 15th state wild and scenic river. Caldor Fire Update, 136,643 Acres, 12% Contained, 637 Structures Burned, 2,897 Personnel

Grizzly Flat, CA...Throughout the evening hours and overnight, the fire remained active in the Northeast with most growth occurring in Divisions I and J. Critical fuel conditions, steep and rugged terrain still present a challenge for crews. Firefighters are continuing with the firing operations in Divisions A and W to help strengthen control lines. Winds over the fire will be moderate causing a slight reduction in fire behavior, however fire conditions still remain active and challenging.

Caldor Fire Evacuations Spread to Alpine County & Closer to Tahoe, Hwy 50 Closure Moved to Meyers

Grizzly Flats, CA...Update to Evacuation Orders, Warnings, and Road Closures is Effective Immediately for El Dorado and Alpine Counties Road Closures: The Highway 50 closure has been extended East to Meyers (Highway 50 and Highway 89 junction). Evacuation Routes: Residents evacuating the area should use Highway 50 East. Evacuation Order: El Dorado County From Twin Bridges east to Echo Summit , From Highway 50 South to Amador/Alpine County line , From Highway 50 North to Flag Pole Peak.

Ongoing COVID-19 Surge in Amador

Amador County, CA...Amador County Public Health reports 139 more cases of COVID-19 and 3 additional deaths since last Tuesday’s update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 2,485. The community members who passed were 2 males, one in their 40s, another in his 60s, and 1 female in her 70s. The current cases include 69 males and 70 females; 28 children under the age of 18 years, 70 aged 18-49, 23 aged 50-64, 18 age 65 and above; 38 residing in Ione, 51 in Jackson, 11 living in Plymouth/surrounding areas, 16 in Pine Grove, 10 residing in Pioneer, 11 in Sutter Creek/Amador City, and 2 residing in Volcano. 1,251 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in 2021 to date. Of the new cases this week, 22 were fully-vaccinated. The surge of COVID-19 cases and hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions continues to impact our local hospital. Nine Amador residents are currently hospitalized locally with COVID-19, in addition to 4 residents from other counties. Of those hospitalized, none were fully-vaccinated. Due to the increased transmission rate of the Delta variant of COVID-19, masks are recommended for all regardless of vaccination status when indoors in public or outdoors in crowds. Under the State Health Officer Order, masks are required indoors in public areas for those who are not vaccinated.

Caltrans Completes Pedestrian Safety Project in Jackson

Jackson, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently completed a project to enhance pedestrian safety, mobility and accessibility on State Route 88 and Route 49 in the town of Jackson in Amador County. The project installed and upgraded curb ramps, sidewalks, and driveways, provided accessible asphalt concrete shoulders, as well as accessible pedestrian signals and push buttons that meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The project limits were Route 88 from Broadway to the Route 49 junction, and Route 49 from North Fork Jackson Creek to Peek Street. Work also was conducted on the South Fork Jackson Creek Bridge, Jackson Creek Bridge and North Fork Jackson Creek Bridge. Serafix Engineering Contractors of San Ramon started construction in February 2021 and completed the estimated $3.16 million project in July 2021. Caltrans wishes to thank the traveling public for its cooperation during construction and reminds motorists to please “Be Work Zone Alert.”

COVID-19 Surge Continues in Amador

Amador County, CA... Amador County Public Health reports 132 more cases of COVID-19 and 1 additional death since the August 10th, 2021 update, bringing the total laboratory confirmed case count to 2,341. The community member who passed was a female in her 60s. The current cases include 67 males and 65 females; 30 children under the age of 18 years, 54 aged 18-49, 28 aged 50-64, 20 age 65 and above; 26 residing in Ione, 37 in Jackson, 10 living in Plymouth/surrounding areas, 15 in Pine Grove, 13 residing in Pioneer, 24 in Sutter Creek/Amador City, and 7 residing in Volcano. 1,107 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in 2021 to date. Of the new cases this week, 28 were vaccinated.

Caldor Fire Now 122,980 Acres, 11% Contained, 637 Structures Destroyed & Inching Towards Lake Tahoe

Grizzly Flats, CA...The fire was active in the early portion of the day due to the inversion layer lifting rapidly. The Northeast side of the fire saw the most movement towards Hwy 50 and Twin Bridges aided by up canyon winds and spotting distances up to a half mile away. In areas that were in alignment with winds, passive crown fire runs were seen. Throughout the incident spot fires continued to be found with the large spot fire north of Hwy 50 growing moderately due to rollout. With the moderate break in weather, crews continued to improve and strengthen containment lines.

Sutter Creek Man Charged in School Incident Over Mask Mandates

Sutter Creek, CA...Sutter Creek resident Jason Wages, 49, has been charged with misdemeanor violations of battery on a school employee, disruptive presence at a school, and disturbing the peace by offensive language. The charges stem from an incident that occurred at Sutter Creek Elementary School on August 11, 2021, over tensions related to the statewide mask mandate at public schools issued by Governor Newsom.

Rep. McClintock Requests a Major Disaster Declaration For Caldor Fire

Roseville, CA...Rep. McClintock today sent a letter to Gov. Newsom requesting a major disaster declaration for the Caldor Fire. “The Caldor Fire has now exceeded 106,500 acres with little containment. As of this writing, 557 structures have been destroyed, including 403 homes, with another 17,488 structures currently threatened. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated, with more expected. The town of Grizzly Flats has been flattened, with more communities throughout El Dorado and Amador counties under severe threat.
