Amador Learning Center Opens

Sutter Creek, CA...Amador Community College Foundation announces the opening of the Amador Learning Center. The center is located at 10877 Conductor Blvd., Suite 700 in Sutter Creek A ribbon cutting and open house was held on May 21. Amador Centers for Higher Learning was founded by Amador Community College Foundation to advocate, facilitate, and support sustainable higher education in Amador County. According to foundation spokesperson Karen Dickerson: “We look forward to showcasing our college center where you can earn degrees, certificates and /or complete college transfer programs online.”

PUSH America, Journey of Hope 2013

Amador and Calaveras County —The Arc of Amador and Calaveras will be hosting the 25th annual welcoming picnic for the inspiring Journey of Hope cyclists. The Journey of Hope is a program of Push America, the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, which raises money and awareness for people with disabilities. The Journey of Hope teams consists of men from Pi Kappa Phi chapters across the country. The teams cycle an average of 75 miles per day, beginning in San Francisco and ending in Washington, D.C...

Jackson Police Activities League Summer Baseball Program

AMADOR COUNTY, CALIFORNIA– The Jackson Police Department is gearing up for our 2013 countywide Jackson Police Activities League Summer Baseball Program. The program is an official departmental program of the Jackson Police Department organized by the Jackson Police Activities League Program (JPAL). JPAL Baseball is open to boys and girls between the ages of eight and thirteen. There are no sign-up fees and no insurance or equipment cost for players. This is a non-competitive league where all kids play and scores are not kept. Sign-ups and player orientation will be held on Wednesday, June 12th at the Generation Life Church in Sutter Hill with sign-ups from 5 to 6 p.m. and orientation beginning at 6 p.m...

PG&E Inspecting Lines By Helicopter Starting Today

Amador & Calaveras, CA...Starting 6/3 PG&E will be doing air patrols in all of Amador and Calaveras county. We are starting and will finish with Amador first then moving to Calaveras county by the end of the week. This should take us two weeks to complete. Be prepared to see a low flying helicopter over all of the power lines in the area...

Sutter Creek, CA... The Resource Connection of Amador and Calaveras County’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program has received the 2013 Best Practices Award for Excellence in Participant Centered Education from the California Department of Public Health State WIC program. Presented at the California WIC Association Conference on April 23, 2013 in San Jose, CA, the award acknowledges agencies that have “gone above and beyond that which is expected, and have implemented best practices” in providing nutritional information and breastfeeding support to income-eligible women, families, and children up to age five...

Murphys, CA...Two major grants recently awarded Mind Matters by community foundations will allow the Murphys based clinic to extend its services in Amador and Tuolumne counties. The non-profit clinic exists to help individuals and families to cope with the consequences of autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), and learning disabilities through treatment, counseling, and education, and to promote a better public understanding of these debilitating health issues....

Sacramento, CA... A new scientific statement from the American Heart Association reminds physicians and people with congenital heart disease that regular physical activity is still important and should be promoted.
Congenital heart disease (heart structural problems existing since birth) is estimated to affect more than 859,000 children and 850,000 adults in the United States.

Sacramento, CA... A little knowledge can be a lifesaving thing. Too often, people use “sudden cardiac arrest” and “heart attack” interchangeably, but they shouldn’t.

A heart attack is when blood flow to the heart is blocked and sudden cardiac arrest is when the heart malfunctions and suddenly stops beating unexpectedly.
