Sutter Creek, CA...Each year the Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) presents a nationally recognized distance learning program to more than 125,000 people in 2,000 communities. For more than a decade, HFA’s educational events have been instrumental in educating healthcare professionals and families on issues affecting end-of-life care. This program provides an opportunity for a wide variety of professionals to share and exchange ideas and obtain continuing education credits. This program is practical for all levels of professions – entry level, intermediate or advanced. The information provided by the expert panel will be useful to parents, nurses, social workers, counselors, nursing home administrators, case managers, funeral directors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, caregivers, and those working in palliative and hospice care, long-term care, or home care.

Amador & Calaveras Counties, CA... WANTED – 9th Grade to 12th Grade Students

The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution is once again joining efforts with the National Italian American Foundation to sponsor a national essay contest on Christopher Columbus. The contest is open to all students in grades 9 through 12 in public, private or parochial schools or those who are home schooled. This contest is conducted without regard to race, sex or national origin. There are monetary prizes for our local Chapter’s winning essay as well as first, second and third places should the student’s work progress through the steps to the national level. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see an Amador or Calaveras County student reach such heights? ...

Traffic Update... Motorcycles Out of Control

Amador County, CA... CHP have released reports of two separate incidents where motorcycles were driven out of control by their riders. The first incident was on Hwy 88 West of Ham's Station on the 16th of August where Christopher Purfeerst of Pioneer, CA was struck from behind by a hit and run motorcyclist. The motorcycle rider attempted to pass on the wrong side striking and damaging Mr. Purfeerst's vehicle on the right side - this collision is still under investigation. The reports are enclosed...

Prison Doctor Recovering from Inmate Assault and Two Correctional Sergeants Suffered Minor In Ione

Ione, A staff physician is recovering from injuries she suffered yesterday from an attack by a Mule Creek State Prison inmate. Shortly after 8 a.m. on August 12, 2013, inmate Robert Daniel Perry, 61, arrived to a medical appointment at the prison. Without warning, he grabbed the doctor by her hair and started choking her.
