Jamestown, CA...California Public Utilities Commission announcement of a $6,659,967 matching grant from the California Advanced Services Fund to the Central Valley Independent Network project. The project will bring improved high speed internet access to the central valley region and Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties. Golden State Cellular owners Volcano Telephone, Calaveras Telephone and Sierra Telephone are partners in the CVIN....

Jackson, CA...On Friday Night the Redskins were on the road in Jackson to take on the Argonaut Mustangs. After 4 quarters they earned a happy bus ride back home rolling along in the drivers seat in the Mother Lode League. We would like to thank Diane Fischer for all the great photos...

Amador County, CA....The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), will hold a community workshop/open house on Wednesday, November 3, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Amador American Legion Hall at 12134 Airport Rd in Sutter Creek. The purpose of the workshop is to review the preliminary findings of the SR 49 Transportation Concept Report (TCR).....

‘Geezers’ get groovy in Jackson |

Head to downtown Jackson on Saturday evening to hear the jazzy tunes of the Geezers, a band that, despite its name, features lively dance tunes. The group is a nine-piece team of classic jazz musicians led by Jan Buhlert of Amador County. A constant figure at jazz events and festivals, the Geezers provide rich, melodic ballads along with dance tunes that hearken to Jackson’s days of speakeasies and ladies of the night....

Amador County Community Band To Tour White House |

Jackson, CA...Band leader Ernie Kapphahn was so pleased and proud to be able to tour the White House with his fellow musicians that he asked us to assist in preparing a press release about the band’s trip to the Sousa Festival in Washington this coming weekend. The roughly 30 members of the Amador County Community Band have come a long way since their formation in September 2001. But this Friday at noon might mark the farthest travel and the loftiest destination. That’s when 27 members of the group will be on a tour of the White House arranged by the Washington D.C. office of Congressman Dan Lungren (R-CA)....
