Award Winning Investigator & Fixture of Law Enforcement in Amador & Calaveras Counties Retiring |

Jackson, CA...From the Amador County District Attorney's Office..."Gary Stevens is retiring from the Amador County District Attorney's Office. Gary has over thirty years law enforcement experience, beginning with the U.S. Border Patrol in the late 80's, then to Calaveras Sheriff for 13 years, 5 years with the Amador County Sheriff, and the last 12 and a half years as an Investigator with the DA's Office. Gary worked as a criminal investigator, (crimes against children, officer involved shootings, homicides, etc). Gary was awarded the California District Attorney's Association 'Outstanding Investigator of the year' in 2014, and Amador County Peace Office of the Year in 2014, stemming from a homicide investigation in Sutter Creek. Gary will be returning in a few months as a part time investigator with the DA's Office. Enjoy retirement Gary!"

Amador County, CA...COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Amador County. Public Health confirms sixteen additional cases in Amador County since last Friday’s COVID-19 update. These new cases continue to demonstrate 3 main exposure avenues in Amador: (1) Family or co-worker transmission, (2) Congregate living transmission, (3) Community transmission.

Plymouth, CA – The Ione Band of Miwok Indians are pleased to announce Governor Newsom’s signature of a tribal-state gaming compact between the State of California and the Ione Band of Miwok Indians. “On behalf of the Ione Band of Miwok Indians, I would like to thank Governor Newsom and his staff for their hard work and dedication as we worked to achieve this important milestone, particularly in light of the state’s many responsibilities addressing the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Chairperson Sara Dutschke. “This is an exciting time for our Tribe, and we look forward to continuing to foster a strong and prosperous government-to-government relationship with the State of California and Amador County.”

Governor Newsom Signs Tribal Compacts and Concurs with U.S. Department of the Interior Decision |

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has signed tribal-state gaming compacts between the State of California and the Ione Band of Miwok Indians, the Mooretown Rancheria of Maidu Indians, the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians, the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation and the Tule River Indian Tribe of California. The Governor has also concurred with the Department of the Interior’s decision to allow 40 acres in Tulare County to be placed in trust for the Tule River Indian Tribe of California, for the purpose of relocating the Tribe’s casino.

Since Friday’s COVID-19 update, Amador County Public Health confirms eighteen additional cases in Amador County. The recent cases are due to 3 primary reasons: (1) Household or co-worker transmission (2) Travel outside of Amador County (3) Community transmission.

Jackson, CA...The show must go on for the 21st Annual Hospice of Amador & Calaveras “Celebrate Life” Art Auction,and it willꟷVIRTUALLYꟷon Friday, September 18 on Facebook live. This year’s event promises the same excitement as in years’ past, with a live art auction, a raffle-style drawing for valuable prizes, and the ever-popular final event of the evening, which is being called, “I Stand for Hospice.” Director of Community Outreach Wendy Mathis, the lead organizer of the event said, “We’ve been gathering donations of original art and raffle prizes, and we are so excited to see local artists and businesses stepping up during such a challenging time to help us reach our fundraising goal. Every year we are amazed at the community’s generosity, but considering this year’s challenges, it is even more special to receive this kind of support.”
