Slink Fire Grows to 11,000 Acres, Evacuations Lifted, Hwy 395 Reopens & Smoke Output Drops

Coleville, CA...The Slink Fire was reported on August 29th at 6 p.m. in the Slinkard Valley southwest of Topaz Lake. It is burning in pinyon juniper, sage and grass and was a result of recent lightning in the area. September 1st, 2020– The Slink Fire behavior moderated today and hard work by firefighters has increased the containment to 10%. All evacuations in the towns of Walker and Coleville have been lifted and Highway 395 is now open to traffic.

Amador County, CA – Amador County Public Health confirms an additional three COVID-19 cases and 1 additional death since Friday’s COVID-19 update. The individual who passed was a resident of Jackson in their 80s with underlying conditions placing them at increased risk for COVID-19 complications.

BLM Enhances Fire Restrictions to Ban Open Flames & Target Shooting for Rest of Fire Season

El Dorado Hill, CA...The Bureau of Land Management Mother Lode Field Office is increasing fire restrictions and temporary target shooting limitations for BLM-managed public lands in the Sierra Nevada foothills effective Aug. 27, due to high fire danger. These seasonal restrictions are in addition to the year-round statewide fire prevention order, issued on April 28, and the initial fire restrictions issued by the Mother Lode Field Office on May 29, which will remain in effect until further notice.

Amador Drops Off State COVID-19 Monitoring List

Amador County, CA – Amador County Public Health confirms an additional five COVID-19 cases since Friday’s COVID-19 update. Today, August 25, 2020, Amador County was removed from the County Data Monitoring List. The state will modify local restrictions if the local COVID-19 activity remains stable. Amador County Public Health will continue to monitor local case rate and test positivity and will notify the public when the State Health Officer Order is modified to allow more indoor activities.

El Dorado County Resident Tests Positive for Plague

South Lake Tahoe, CA...El Dorado County health officials have been notified by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that a South Lake Tahoe resident has tested positive for plague. The individual is currently under the care of a medical professional and is recovering at home. It's believed that the person, an avid walker, may have been bitten by an infected flea while walking their dog along the Truckee River Corridor north of Highway 50 or the Tahoe Keys area in South Lake Tahoe. Health officials are investigating the situation.
