Calaveras County and Beyond...Kindness Week is February 11-17, 2013! The idea is simple: When we make a conscious effort to perform a kind act, ripples of kindness flow forth. The grassroots effort to promote random acts of kindness firmly took hold in 1995 when the Angels Camp City Council issued a proclamation and The City of Angels became the first designated "Kindness Zone" in the United States. Since then, the ripples of kindness have continued to spread and now wash over all Calaveras County Schools in a celebration of kindness each February. For project information, please visit www.theseedsofkindness.com To learn more about random acts of kindness activities visit the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website at www.actsofkindness.org....

San Andreas, CA....Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital (MTSJH) Hospital President Craig Marks announced that MTSJH has changed its name to Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC). “After my arrival at MTSJH in May,” stated Marks, “we began to reexamine our Mission, Vision, and Values. As we progressed in this dialogue, it became very clear that MTSJH is much more than just a hospital. We need to be the center of healthcare for the residents and visitors to Calaveras County. This does not mean we will meet every healthcare need, but for those services we don’t provide we have partners throughout the Dignity Health System that can. In addition, there are many services that we have not provided in the past that we can and should provide local. For example, on January 7, we are opening a cancer center, complete with chemotherapy infusion center, and PET/CT scanner to meet the medical oncology needs of local residents.
Patriotism on Display at Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service

Angels Camp, CA...The Ebbetts Pass Veterans larger than life flag flew above the Fallen Firefighters memorial service at St. Patrick's Church on December 27th. The Calaveras Fire Chaplains sponsored the candlelight service ironically on the eve after first responders perished after being lured to a home in upstate New York. Here locally our fire departments are usually on scene of any incident sometimes long before law enforcement. As the world becomes a darker place at times let us remember those that are first to respond when the alarm beckons.
