Copperopolis, CA...(Copperopolis, CA) On 01/31/13 at approx. 2:30 pm Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies, detectives, and Angels Camp Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Firefall Jewelry located in the Copper Town Square in Copperopolis. According to the store clerk the suspect walked into the store and displayed a round object, stating that it was a hand grenade. The suspect also told the clerk that he had an accomplice outside on a roof with a “high powered rifle”. Furthermore, the suspect declared that he had a package that he would leave behind the building, indicating that it possibly contained an explosive device. After stealing a significant amount of jewelry he walked out of and away from the store. A witness who was interviewed during the investigation confirmed that they had seen a man matching the suspect’s description place the package on the ground behind the building...

(Copperopolis, CA) On 01/31/13 at approx. 2:30 pm Calaveras County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a cellular 911 call regarding an armed robbery at Firefall Jewelry located in the Copper Town Square in Copperopolis. According to the caller a Caucasian adult male with a bruised eye, described as: 5-10 in height, brown hair, medium build, approx. 30 years of age, and wearing a red hat and black sweat jacket, walked into the store, displayed what the caller described as a round object, and demanded the jewelry from the store display cases. The suspect told the clerk that the round object was a hand grenade. The suspect stole an unknown amount of jewelry and walked away from the store....

Angels Camp, CA...Walt Markus and his team at Gateway Press in Murphys were the winners of the "Business of the Year" award at tonight's Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner. For 28 years they have been providing a wide range if business graphics and printed products. This a well deserved honor for this well run and fixture of the community. State Senator Tom Berryhill was on hand to present the honor. 2012 was a great year for the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce and tonight was their 89th Annual Dinner where the new officers, directors, and business of the year are announced....

Mark Twain Medical Center Awards $22,000 in Community Grants With Video Enclosed

San Andreas, CA...January 23, 2013– Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) has selected six Calaveras County nonprofit organizations to receive Dignity Health Community Grants for 2012. “Besides having the opportunity to listen to each of the recipients about their projects, this luncheon also provides us the opportunity to talk about our Community Benefit programs and celebrate their successes,” commented Larry Cornish, V.P. Chief Operating Officer, who serves on the Executive Leadership team that evaluated grants. “In 2012, over 52,000 persons benefited from our community programs. Highlights included a total community benefit expenditure of over $32 million. Quantifiable benefits included over $3M in benefit to our more vulnerable populations, $40,000 for the broader community, traditional charity care, unpaid costs of Medi-cal and Medicare, community service donations, community health services and education, and community building activities.”

Habitat for Humanity Calaveras is Seeking Volunteers

San Andreas, CA...In its efforts to assist more local families with their housing needs, Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to help with its continuing projects. Depending on their interests and abilities, volunteers may be assigned to help in operating the ReStore (proceeds fund Habitat’s housing programs), “A Brush With Kindness” sprucing up homes in various local neighborhoods, a Women Build project in May, a Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative at the Community Hall in West Point, and fundraising for Snow-Down for Habitat in March and Hoe-Down for Habitat in September....

San Andeas, CA...(We planned this interview to be part of the Chamber's Welcome Home Campaign. We shot it a couple of weeks before the announcement so we thought a repost is in order. One of the things a vibrant and healthy community needs is quality health care. Mark Twain Medical Center's CEO Craig Marks and his team have the vision and plans to do just that) We had the pleasure to spend a few minutes with new Mark Twain Medical Center CEO Craig Marks. There have and will be big changes and plans at our local hospital and medical centers. They plan on recruiting up to 30 new providers over the next few years and they are opening up a new cancer center as well. We conducted our interview in a new Fluoroscopy Suite that is being installed.
