Over the last 100 years the way we keep our homes has changed. A house wife is called a domestic engineer. In our home we have built in vacuums, microwaves and dishwashers. But some home making arts are making a come back. Baking and canning are more popular today than they have been in several decades. Some believe this new found popularity is due to “Foodies. A Foodie (sometimes spelled foody) is an informal term for a particular class of aficionado of food and drink. People all across America have fallen in love with food again. At the same time people want to know where their food comes from. Urban gardens are popping up in the most unusual places, tops of buildings, city parks and other creative places. These new trends are not new for Fairs. For over a century the “fair” has showcased the community’s best jams, jellies and produce....

Copperopolis, CA...Tow vehicles are removing a vehicle that has gone of the roadway and down a steep embankment and ended up about 30ft off of the roadway. The accident occurred on Hwy 4 near Hunt Road. Please use caution in the area until the incident is cleared... |

Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshops Starting in Calaveras County |

San Andreas, CA...A new six-week workshop series to teach residents with chronic diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes skills to better manager their conditions is starting April 18 in Angels Camp. Family members and partners are also welcome at the no cost workshops sponsored by the Calaveras County Public Health Department. Next "Drop The Drugs" Day is April 27th |

San Andreas, CA.. Calaveras Community members can prevent prescription and other drug misuse and abuse by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted drugs on April 27th, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations in the county. A “Drop the Drugs” event is being presented by Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention. The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked. This is the third year in which the United States Drug Enforcement Ad ministration (DEA) and more than 3,000 state and local law enforcement partners, including Calaveras County have hosted prescription drug take back days in Spring and Fall. |

The Annual Farm Bureau Ag Day Filled Frogtown |

Frogtown, CA....The Calaveras County Farm Bureau spearheaded the annual Ag Day that fills the Calaveras County Fair Grounds every year with eager young minds from our local elementary schools. Booth after booth awaited the young arrivals as they learned about ag and other related topics. This is another lead up event to the Annual Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jump Jubilee every year. The booths ranged from straight Agricultural like the Dairy Council to the Sheriff's Department with their Marine Division to SPI and a Big Rig Filled one of our larger agricultural commodities....
