Senseless Vandalism At White Pines Park As Brummund Tree Is Destroyed

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/09/2014 09:42 AM
Arnold, CA....White Pines Park Committee's Ginny Kafka was cleaning and checking on the restrooms last weekend and and noticed something very wrong. The Dogwood tree that had been planted in honor of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund had been torn out and thrown on the roof. Everytime she has cleaned the restrooms she has watered the young tree and watched it grow. Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund was killed on June 10th, 2010 by a remotely detonated roadside bomb in Afghanistan. All of Calaveras County mourned his loss and for anyone who was a resident or in the community during the week after his death will remember like it was yesterday the thousands who lined the roads to honor his family and him as they returned to the county....

Pictured above is the uprooted tree on the roof of the restroom building at the park, L Cpl. Gavin Brummund, Son of Debbie Morris and Gregg Brummund, who was raised in Arnold CA and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 2006. The above image was taken by AP photographer David Guttenfelder of Gavin during a firefight with the Taliban in the battle for Marja in Afghanistan. This photo made numerous appearances in the national press. Below that is a photo of Gavin that was displayed at his service at Frogtown.

A Few Tips From The CSLB to Protect Yourself From Bad Contractors.

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/09/2014 10:32 AM
Calaveras County, CA...We have all either heard of, know someone or have ourselves been a victim of a bad contractor. There are, unfortunely, people out there who just want to take your money without doing any work...shocking, I know! It's such a big problem, that the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) conducts sting operations with local police to try and catch these "contractors". There is even a new T.V. show on Spike called Catch a Contractor. The show focuses on families who have been burned by someone promising work, but fail to follow through and were left with unfinished, and sometimes unsafe, living conditions. Like this family...

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/09/2014 10:51 AM
San Andreas, CA...Did you know that using a typical gas mower for one year can pollute as much as a car driven for 22,000 miles??? The Calaveras Air Pollution Control District (APCD) has initiated a grant program designed to assist the public in the replacement of existing gasoline or diesel-powered lawn mowers with cordless, zero-emission, electric lawn mowers. The APCD is offering a $145 rebate to any Calaveras County resident that replaces their current gasoline or diesel powered lawn mower with a zero-emission, cordless lawn mower....

Sheriff Gary Kuntz "Why I’m Running For Re-Election

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/08/2014 01:01 PM
Calaveras County, CA...When I ran for Sheriff four years ago, law enforcement in Calaveras County faced some real challenges. I believed then that my 24-year career in Calaveras County law enforcement made me the best candidate to confront those challenges, and I asked for your vote. I sincerely appreciate the trust placed in me by the voters. Back then I pledged to fight for public safety. I pledged to put emphasis back on community policing. I pledged to help get the jail project back on track, and to restore trust in the Sheriff’s office. Today, working together, we have made real progress on all these fronts.

Bret Harte Swam at Jackson Community Pool this past Friday in a

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/06/2014 08:25 PM
In our first true cold weather meet of the year, the Bret Harte swimmers were still able to swim well and defeat both Amador and Argonaut teams. By mid meet the scores got very close and the Bret Harte Team Captains had to huddle their team together and fire up the swimmers to finish strong and go on to win the meet. Standout swims included junior Josh Brady swimming personal bests in all 4 of his events, swimming freesytle in all three relays and the 100 yard freestyle, proving in his rookie year that he is now one of the team's top freestylers. Sophomore Katie Johnson swam the longest freestyle event for the team, the 500 yard freestyle and dropped 18 seconds off her previous time, confirming her spot as one of the top distance freestylers for the Bret Harte girls team. Another first year swimmer and one to watch is freshman Tyler Carlson; as he has moved his way into the position of third ranked butterflier for the boys team, placing and scoring points in the 100 yard butterfly...
