Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office K-9 "Buster" Is On Duty & Ready To Serve |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office would like to introduce “Buster” to the community. Buster is Dutch Sheppard narcotic detection canine. This is the first canine in over 14 years for the department. The Sheriff’s Office recognized the need for a canine however, funding for the program has always been the determining factor. The funding hurdle was overcome largely in part from a partnership with a local non-profit organization Friends of Calaveras Sheriff Office. Friends of the Sheriff organization stepped up and provided 100% funding for the purchase, training, and equipment needed for the program. Friends of the Sheriff have also pledged to continue their support to the program by assisting with monthly and yearly financial needs of the canine team...

Big Wins for the Copper Hills 4-H Group at the Fair this Year! |

Angels Camp, Ca...The County Fair is an event that many kids look forward to every year - and not just for the fun rides, the yummy food, or the cool goodies. For the local 4-H kids, the fair is a chance to show off their animals, demonstrate how well they have raised, taken care of, and trained their favorite fuzzy, furred, or feathered friend. The Copper Hills 4-H Group did very well this year, and their president Megan Borzone sent us the results of the group's efforts. Megan herself did quite well, earning first place for Dog Obedience, a stained glass project, Advanced Horse Showmanship, and Large Animal Round Robin. She also won second place in Dog Senior Showmanship, Reserve Champion 4-H Breeding Ewe, Reserve Supreme Champion Breeding Ewe, Reserve Champion 4-H Market Lamb, Reserve Supreme Champion Market Lamb, and Second Place Outstanding Livestock Exhibitor. Megan has been a busy gal this year, and it shows! Congratulations, Megan, and congratulations to everyone else in the Copper Hills 4-H Group...

Golf Tournament Benefits Free Mobile Clinic |

Sonora, CA – Sonora Regional Medical Center’s 18th Annual Golf Classic will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at Saddle Creek Resort in Copperopolis. All proceeds from the tournament go toward funding Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Project HOPE, a free mobile health clinic serving people in the community who typically do not have health insurance. The clinic is available twice a week at the Crossroads Shopping Center in Sonora and once a month at Interfaith. “The player registration list is filling up fast, so we are encouraging interested golfers to contact us now,” says Gail Witzlsteiner, Sonora Regional Medical Center Foundation executive director. “This has been an increasingly popular event, and this year, Saddle Creek has asked us to cap the total number of golfers.” ...

San Andreas, CA...Monday, June 2, 2014 at 8:00 AM, the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will suspend outdoor burning within State Responsibility Areas of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. These restrictions will remain in effect until further notice....

Las Vegas, NV. -- TJ Dillashaw shocked the world at the Ulitimate Fighting Championship on Saturday night, knocking out Renan Barao in the final round of their bantamweight title fight inside MGM Grand Garden Arena. The result snaps a 33-fight unbeaten streak for Barao that dated back to April 2005. "I've dreamed it for so long, it's unbelievable," Dillashaw said. Barao was heralded as perhaps the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world ahead of Saturday, but he was hopelessly outclassed against a significant underdog. Angels Camp, CA...A 19 year old Arnold man was driving a 2000 Jeep westbound on Hwy 4 west of Pool Station at approximately 45 mph, when for an unknown reason, he allowed his vehicle to travel to the right and off the paved portion of the roadway while attempting to negotiate an natural curve in the roadway.
