San Andreas, CA...Calaveras High School senior Kelly Airola beamed as she accepted a $500 scholarship at the Calaveras County Water District’s board meeting Wednesday, May 14. “Thank you for this generous scholarship,” she said. “It’s a great honor and it means so much to me.” Airola earned the scholarship after her essay was selected, along with James Sommers who is a senior at Bret Harte High School, from about 30 entries. The Calaveras County Water District awards two scholarships each year to deserving students using funds from its Water Resources Education Fund. “Thank you for this scholarship,” Sommers said. “Next year I’m going to U.C. Davis and majoring in biology. Then I plan to go to dental school.” Both students read their winning essays aloud in the board room. After a round of applause, CCWD Director Jeff Davidson lauded the students for taking an interest in water. “You’re both exceptional kids and will have a great future,” he said, adding he would be pleased to see Airola and Sommers work for the water district one day...

Complete Government Center Frog Jump Results |

San Andreas, CA...We had already posted that Marcia Thompson & "Morph" had taken the top stop but we thought we would pass along some random video clips and over 140 photos of the event. Jockeying our local mascots seems easy enough until you try it. On Tuesday it seemed to take a woman's coaxing to get our green friends to leap. Some of the biggest guys in the crowd from the public works department barely got them to budge. There was one petite female whom shall remain nameless who not only scared her frog into movement but scared many in attendance as well. One has to assume from the harmless looking packaging on the outside that her bark must be worse than her bite.....

The 2014 Fair & Frog Jump Lead Up Events....Sponsors Night & Friends, CVB & Chamber Mixer (Video Enclosed) |

Angels Camp, CA...As the momentum builds every year for the rural America tradition, fun and pageantry that is the Fair & Frog Jump Jubilee some events stand out as signature events. It is during these events that our local hazing hits high gear. One of the rights of passage for any prospective beauty queen here is to kiss a few frogs. Not a fake, close but not quite, but actual lips on a green amphibian. Why does it matter....well if your not from here you wouldn't understand. Also, if you are an elected, or hope to become one, planting lips somewhere on our green royalty from time to time just has to be done. If you don't and it becomes public knowledge you run the risk of your quest being in vain, or if you somehow managed to get elected without kissing a frog the only way to remove this electoral curse is to publicly and repeatedly make amorous protestations towards our green citizens. The best photos are the ones right after these in the gallery. These are the ones that catch the realization that they did actually kiss a frog....
Over 180 Photos Above...Very Few Are Actually of Frog Kissing. Most Are Of The Events. Video Is Enclosed.... |
