Local 7 Year Old…Champion Calf Rider ~ By, Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/13/2010 04:15 PM
When Jake Toberer was only three years old, following in his father Michael and older brother Zack’s footsteps, he began to ride horses. By four years old he was packing into the back country with his family’s mule packing business Copper Valley Trail Company. By five years old he was bitten with the calf riding bug and this is where the real story begins. There was only one thing holding Jake back from his calf riding dream…his age. At five years old he was too young to compete. What his father saw in his young son’s eyes when he asked to ride was determination, drive, and passion to become a bull rider. How could a father not help his son try to achieve his dream? Enter friend and fellow bull rider Ryan McClure. Under Ryan’s careful tutelage and ....

Letter to the Editor~by Darren Spellman

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/08/2010 11:36 PM
I offer my apologies. I would like to express my regrets if I offended or disappointed any constituents of District 5 regarding the scheduled debate in Copperopolis on Wednesday 10 /13/2010.  That was certainly not my intention. I am not a politician.  I am a taxpayer, a husband, a father and friend, who wants the best for his community.  I have grown frustrated with a political process nationwide that has become so corrupt that the taxpayers never really have an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns or even vent criticism of their elected officials and candidates for office in an open public forum.  The .....

Copperopolis Community Garden… Planting a Future ~ By, Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/08/2010 08:31 AM
Copperopolis, CA...In the spring of 2009 Dena McAfee, Maggie Rollings, Jack Jimenez, Richard DeBussman, Jane Everett, and Sue Funkey came together with the idea of a community garden following the thought of ‘plant a row for yourself…plant a row for the food pantry.’ This idea took shape and grew over time to become a reality with the first planting of ‘starters’ (seedlings with a healthy start) on Thursday October 7, 2010.....

At the Copperopolis Fire Protection District Special Board of Directors Meeting held October 7, 2010, the agenda subject was “appointment to fill vacancy on board of directors.” The vacancy was created September 16, 2010 when the Board dismissed Director Steve Nelson for “failing to discharge his duties for three consecutive months.” Retired volunteer Captain Jerry Andress was appointed to the position of Director. He will hold this position until the general election in November 2011, when he can then seek election to a four year term...

District 5 Race Heats Up!~by Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/07/2010 05:00 PM
Copperopolis, CA,,,,,The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce held a District 5 Candidate Debate between incumbent Russ Thomas and Darren Spellman Wednesday evening at the Armory in Copperopolis. There were approximately 50 people in attendance. Upon entering the door citizens were greeted by Executive Director Diane Gray and asked if they would like to ask the candidate a question. If so they were to write the question on a piece of paper and place it in a basket. This form of questioning allows residents of the community to ask questions anonymously creating a less “inflammatory” environment.....

An Explosive Night In the Old Armory. It Wasn't a Debate...But it Was A Show!~with Complete Unedited Video Enclosed (Update..Closing Open Comments)

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/06/2010 10:55 PM
Copperopolis, CA...The scheduled debate with Russ Thomas vs. Darren Spellman was billed as a Chamber of Commerce and Copperopolis Business Association led, organized and moderated event this evening in the Old Amory. The event went downhill and was over before it ever got started. During the candidates opening statements Candidate Spellman stated that because the Chamber Board President, Mark Luster's company, SPI had contributed to Supervisor Thomas's campaign he felt the questions may be biased. He then stated he would only answer questions from District 5 residents that were spoken to him and not written down ahead of time....
