Copperopolis Man Arrested On Attempted Murder Charges |

Copperopolis, CA....On 11-13-15 at about 2235hrs, the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault with a knife in the 1000 Block of Iroquois Court, Copperopolis. The victim was transported to a local hospital for their injuries and 60 year old John Merritt was arrested for attempted murder. The sheriff’s office is currently investigating this incident. More information will be provided Monday.

At higher elevations...snow and heavy rain likely in the morning...then snow showers in the afternoon. Cooler. Highs 28 to 40 higher elevations...39 to 45 lower elevations. Snow accumulation 4 to 8 inches lower elevations...6 to 12 inches higher elevations. Snow level 5000 feet. Prevailing southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Over ridges...prevailing southwest winds 35 to 55 mph with gusts to around 70 mph decreasing to 15 to 30 mph in the afternoon.

Copperopolis, CA...Under the coordination of Acting Sgt. Ed Evans, Lt. Ed Anderson, Sgt. Ralph Carlascio, Sgt. Aurora Weatherby, David Aguilar, Louis Chiu, Kathy Martin, Ron Parker and Rudy Silberbauer of the Calaveras County Sheriff Volunteer Unit provided traffic control at the Veteran's Day Parade in Copperopolis Wednesday. The Parade was well attended by local residents and out of town visitors under beautiful weather. Everyone who attended the Parade shared the patriotic spirit in remembrance of the sacrifices made by all veterans.

We have snow at higher elevations, unfortunately flash flood warnings at lower elevations especially in the Butte Fire burn area. Tonight: At lower elevations...rain in the evening...then rain and snow showers after midnight. At higher elevations...rain and snow in the evening...then snow showers after midnight. Colder. Lows 19 to 34 higher elevations...30 to 42 lower elevations. Snow accumulations up to 4 inches. Snow level 5500 feet decreasing to 4000 feet after midnight...locally lower. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph...except southwest 15 to 30 mph over ridges. Monday: Mostly cloudy. Major Injury Accident For Murphys Woman |

Angels Camp, CA...At the time of this collision, SR-4 was closed due to a solo vehicle collision. Traffic control had been in place for approximately 5-10 minutes. An Angels Camp woman and a Copperopolis Woman were stopped in traffic, with Party 2 stopped directly behind Party 3. The collision occurred when Party 1 a Murphys woman was traveling in a 2006 Chevy on SR-4 just east of Stallion Way approaching stopped traffic. The Murphys woman's attention was diverted towards the fireman that was holding the stop sign (in order to stop traffic). Due to her inattention, she failed to notice the traffic stopped directly ahead of her location.

Copperopolis, CA...Many of our communities have their favorite neighborhoods for our young trick or treaters. Murphys has Rocky Hill, Angels Camp has Angel Oaks and in Copperopolis the Copperopolis Town Square is becoming the destination stop. They block the roads and businesses and local community groups provide the treats. That with Live Music by The Copper Renegades made it a great evening....
