Mountain Ranch, CA...Mountain Ranch Road was the scene of a horrible accident early Sunday afternoon when three Mountain Ranch residents lost their lives. Kallie Montgomery 22, Jeremy Peters 34 and Skye Montgomery 17 succumbed to their injuries. The accident occurred as a light rain was falling. The CHP release is enclosed.....

"After many years of dedication and devotion to Nicholas, Gypsy has moved to the Asian barn and habitat for a much deserved retirement with Rebecca, Annie and Wanda. She has enjoyed three days out in the big habitat, carefully exploring every area with a particular interest in the lake. We have watched with great joy as this sweet, unselfish, gentle elephant inspects every tree and bush, munching on grass and stopping to greet the others with trunk touching and rumbles before she moves on to her next exciting experience......

Mark Twain St. Hospital Awards Grant Funds to Youth's

Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital recently announced the awards for their 2008 Endowment for Youth Program. Each year the hospital’s Thrift Stores provide funding opportunities for not-for-profit Calaveras County projects that provide services to children ages 0-18. For this funding period, $28,500 was awarded to 46 local organizations to support their youth programs. “We are very pleased to once again provide funding to support their organization’s mission, especially in today’s economic environment” said Thrift Store manager Diana Rodrigues. “Our community is blessed to have these.....

2009 Open Garden Days Return on Saturday February 28th

Master Gardeners welcome the public back to their Demonstration Garden on February 28, 2009. While the garden has been resting Master Gardeners have been busy preparing another series of interesting and informative events for the 2009 season. Held on the fourth Saturday of each month, starting in February and concluding in November, Open Garden Days will focus on production of high yield and continuous crops that are easy to grow in a limited space....

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation Director Peggy Lucas led a good sized group of staff from MTSJ as they delivered a van that was literally stuffed with food and donations for the Calaveras Food Bank. In addition to the food supplies they also gave HRC and Food Bank Director Billie J. Westernoff a check for $200 from MTSJ employees...

Mark Twain St. Josesphs Hospital Foundation Celebrates Successful Campaign and Installs New Officers

At the Annual Dinner and Installation of officers recently head at Ironstone Vineyards, Robert Hussmann from Angels Camp, the newly installed Foundation President, announced the success of a campaign to support Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s purchase of digital mammography technology. The first machine, funded by the Foundation, is scheduled to be installed in the San Andreas hospital in early fall. “We are so fortunate to live in a community that understands the importance of having a thriving health care facility and is willing to support it so generously,” stated Hussmann. The campaign for the second machine in Angels Camps is underway.....

San Andreas, CA...The Ridge at Trinitas is now before the Calaveras County Planning Commission. The applicants and their experts and Representatives are addressing the commission now. We will provide complete video of the meeting for viewing later. Because of the change of venue to the San Andreas Town Hall, we were unable to bring you the meeting live. Over 200 people are attending the meeting at this time. Updates to come so stay tuned......(Update...after public comments from almost 30 interested parties they are breaking for lunch and will resume at approximately 1pm.).....

San Andreas, CA....One of the hot topics discusses at Wednesday evenings San Andreas Sanitary District Meeting was the possibility of proposed rate increase for the San Andreas Area. Why is Rate Adjustment Needed? The District collects wastewater from homes and businesses within San Andreas and then treats and disposes it at its waste water treatment plant. The current monthly sewer rates charged by the District cover the District’s cost necessary to operate, maintain, and service debt on the existing waste water collection and treatment system. It does not cover upgrade improvements to the waste water treatment and costs of operating those improvements in order to maintain compliance with State requirements.....

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday at a busy Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Meeting, one of the most notable agenda items to move forward was the Agriculture and Forestry Element into the General Plan. This element has been crafted by local Agriculture, Agritourism and Forestry Concerns and was accepted by the county. Local notables such as Scott Klann from the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance and Addie Jacobson from Ebbetts Pass Forest Watch led the discussions from the community groups.
