They may have had their ribbon cutting today but they have already made a huge impact in the community. They have over 200 clients signed up to take advantage of their employment screenings and workman's compensation care...

Law Enforcement Wins Right to Vote to Leave SEIU ~By John Hamilton |

San Andreas, CA...The Board voted 4-0 with Supervisor Wilensky recusing himself to allow the Sheriff's Dept. to vote to leave SEIU. When we spoke with Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum he said "This decision will allow the Sheriff's department to form a bargaining unit based on similar interests and needs of those in law enforcement."

William "Bill" Theadore Paulos Has Passed Away |

San Andreas, CA....Longtime San Andreas resident, William "Bill" Theodore Paulos, passed away on March 21st, 2009 of Natural Causes at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital. He was 85. He was a resident of San Andreas for 60 years. A native of Jordan, MT, he grew up, lived and worked on ranches. Bill moved to California in 1949 where a job as head custodian for Calaveras School District waited for him. "Old Timers" may remember him for training horses, a real passion for him. He retired after 47 years in 1996. He liked to fish, camp and most of all spent most of his time riding horses and helping friends with cattle on summer range in the Highland Lakes area..... |

Habitat for Humanity Warehouse to Open More Days |

Calaveras County, CA....Beginning March 25 through May 1 the Habitat for Humanity Calaveras Warehouse will be open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, in addition to the usual first and third Saturdays of each month. The Warehouse is a discount building materials reuse outlet store at 172 California St., San Andreas. The Warehouse will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Wednesdays through Fridays for a six week trial period and as usual from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of each month....

Calaveras County, CA....Following a call for artists in the Calaveras County Arts Council’s 12th annual ArtSpirit Show, 166 high school students from four high schools entered a total of 240 works in 13 categories. Cash awards of $10 for First Prize, $5 for Second Prize, and Third Place ribbons were given in each category. Additionally, a $20 Popular Choice Award will be presented after the April 27 closing of the exhibit. The public is invited to visit the show located in Gallery Calaveras at 22 Main Street in San Andreas. Here are the results.... |

San Andreas, CA...The Flock Gym at Calaveras High School was filled with students, friends and family members yesterday afternoon honoring the Montgomery family children who lost their lives in a tragic motor vehicle accident. The gym was almost filled to capacity with those in our community to pay their respects and to say goodbye to the three young members of the Montgomery family. Tears, smiles and warm feelings flowed freely as members of the community lined up to talk about their departed friends...

Mountain Ranch To Lose It's Only Gas Station Due to State Regulations |

Mountain Ranch, CA....We just spoke with Hometown Auto Parts and Gas Station owner in Mountain Ranch, Jerry Yates. He confirmed that they quit selling gas yesterday when their existing supplies ran out. They are being forced to stop selling fuel due to the new state regulations as of April 1, 2009. The requirement known as Phase II Enhanced Vapor Recovery Program goes into effect at that time. This requires gas stations to individually purchase tens of thousands of dollars of equipment designed to prevent harmful vapors from escaping into the atmosphere... |

Sutter Hill, CA...The public hearing for EBMUD’s 2040 Plan draft EIR was scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. yet by ten after six there wasn’t a seat left in the Amador Water Agency Board Chambers. By 6:30 although the sky between Sutter Hill and the East Bay was a beautiful pink no one was paying attention to the sunset. Aside from the 60 plus people seated and standing inside the Amador Water Agency chambers (capacity 49), at least 40 local residents were standing either in the foyer of the chambers, at the back door or around the windows paying strict attention to the proceedings inside...
