Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Mitton 1933 - 2015 |

Mountain Ranch, CA...Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Mitton, a long-time resident of Mountain Ranch, CA, died in her home Thursday, April 30th, from natural causes. Born on July 11, 1933, Betty was born and raised in the town of Blackfoot, ID. Tall and athletic, she played softball competitively as a teen, travelling for tournaments and playing nearly every position. She was a formidable golfer and bowler, as well. Whether she was a fan or a participant, Betty loved all sports. It was little surprise, then, that she first met Gary Mitton at a high school basketball game.

Junior Miss Calaveras Crowned, Jr. Frog Jump Winners Announced |

Angels Camp, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump were held concurrently on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire District station in Angels Camp. The Junior Miss Calaveras Queen and her court are as follows: QUEEN: Devyn Pryor, 12 of Avery Middle School, 1st Princess: Alexis Watt, 13 of Mark Twain Elementary, 2nd Princess: Mallory Wainwright, 14 of Mark Twain Elementary. Devin is a 7th grader at Avery Middle School, Alexis and Mallory attend Mark Twain. This year, many activities were added to the scoring criteria. The following girls were given awards for these new activities:Sponsorship: Alexis, Most ticket sales: Brooke Nord, Best Interview: Devyn, Highest Score on Written Test: Devyn, Best Speech: Devyn. The Junior Miss Calaveras competition was open to all county 7th and 8th grade girls. The queen and her court will appear in the upcoming Frog Jump parade on Thursday, May 14 and the Jr. Queen will be presented at the Calaveras county fair....

Fire Update...Structure Fire In West Point |

West Point, CA...Firefighters are on scene of a fully involved structure fire in the 2000 block of Winton Road. Update...as of 9:41am. Firefighters have mitigated the wildland threat but the structure portion will continue for several hours. Please use caution in the area.....

Angels Camp, CA...Doris Barger, founder and first president of the Mark Twain Hospital Foundation thirty one years ago, will once again delight golf participants with her traditional golf cart tour of the Greenhorn Creek golf course during play on June 8 at the golf outing named in her honor.

San Andreas - The CAL FIRE Academy (Ione), in coordination with the Tuolumne- Calaveras Unit (TCU), is conducting Heavy Fire Equipment Operator (HFEO) Training west of Angels Camp, along the east side of Fowler Peak Lookout. The training started April 20, 2015, and will run through June 26, 2015.

San Andreas, CA...Yuko “Betty” Keck Farrow, 62, of San Andreas (and more recently, Stockton) passed away unexpectedly Sunday April 26, 2015 in West Sacramento. She is survived by her ex-husband Robert Farrow, daughter Tami Farrow, son Richard Farrow (and daughter in law, Norma), son David Farrow, brothers Kenny, Paul, and David Keck, sister Louise Keck, nephews Mario and Hunter Keck, and her four beautiful grandchildren: Jestene, Brandon, Ryan, and Mia that were her pride and joy. Yuko immigrated to the United States from Japan with her mother and sister in 1956 at age 4 and grew up in the Bay Area, graduating from Skyline High School in Oakland. While at Skyline, she was on the gymnastics team, specializing in the parallel bars....

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Transit to provide shuttle service. Save the cost of parking your car at the County fair this year. Let Calaveras Transit shuttle you right to the gate at Frogtown. Shuttle service to the fair from Angels Camp locations and back will be available at convenient times on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. New this year on Saturday is an Express Fair Shuttle with stops at La Contenta Plaza, Umpqua Bank in Valley Springs, and the Government Center in San Andreas. Express buses will run six times going to the fair and six times coming back. The detailed shuttle schedule is posted on the Calaveras Transit website: www.calaverastransit.com.
