Mark Twain Medical Center and Soroptimist KICK OFF American Heart Month by Offering FREE Cholesterol Tests During February |

San Andreas, CA...As part of a continuing partnership with Soroptimist International of Calaveras County, Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be offering FREE cholesterol tests for women in Calaveras County during American Heart Month in February. This FREE screening is also known as a lipid panel. The test measures good and bad cholesterol and triglycerides helping to identify women at greater risk of heart disease and stroke. The “Take It to Heart Program” offers the free cholesterol tests throughout February to women who live in Calaveras County. A 12 hour fast is recommended or no food after midnight, as is proof of Calaveras County residency. Women needing the FREE cholesterol screenings do not need to schedule an appointment.

Valley Springs, CA...“Kindness goes a long way in healing” notes Family Nurse Practitioner Laura Keller. “Just listening to people makes a huge difference.” Laura has recently joined the staff at Mark Twain Family Medical Center in Valley Springs and explains, “I’m here to provide care for people of all ages.” She received her RN degree from College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg and her FNP certificate from the University of California, Davis.

FOCAS –Friends Of Calaveras Animal Services is a non-profit organization with its primary mission being to enhance County Animals Services by providing a better environment for the animals housed at the existing county shelter. It was created by a small group of local residents who understood that Animal Services is also public safety and plays an important role in keeping our community healthy.

Glenn Hodson Devoted Family Man Passes Away at 78 |

Mountain Ranch, CA...Glenn Hodson Devoted family man. Glenn Hodson died Jan. 20, 2018 in Sacramento, CA. after years of heart problems. He was 78 years old. He was born June 10, 1939 in Fresno, CA. to Marjorie and Glen Hodson. Glenn served in the U.S. Navy as a Radarman on the U.S.S. Oriskany from 1957 to 1961. He then served 2 more years in the Navy Reserves from 1961 to 1963. When Glenn got out of the service he moved to Sacramento where he met his wife, Cecilia (Patty) Delaney. He was a truck driver there for many years before moving to Mountain Ranch.

Drug and Resisting Arrest Charges for Valley Springs Man |

Valley Springs, CA...On 1-23-18 at about 0015 hours, two Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office deputies recognized a subject with outstanding warrants at a gas station in Valley Springs. Joshua Peabody (age 31 of Valley Springs) was contacted by the deputies after dispatch confirmed four outstanding warrants for Peabody’s arrest from Calaveras, Amador and Tuolumne Counties. Deputies informed Peabody he was under arrest at which time he attempted to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit and jumping over a fence, Peabody was apprehended by the deputies.

San Andreas, CA...At this morning's board meeting the Mark Twain Health Care District Board voted 4-0 to approve a new lease for the Mark Twain Medical Center for Dignity Health. This is the first of several pieces on this great news. Enclosed is details of the proposed agreement that were released a few weeks ago. The formal & finalized agreement will no doubt have several changes but this should give you an generalized idea of the agreement...
