MTMC Grows Orthopedic Care in Calaveras County as Seasoned Orthopedist Recruited to Join the Team |

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) has successfully recruited a third orthopedic surgeon to join the MTMC Specialty Care practice along with Dr. Craig Lovett and Dr. Lisa Siegler. Dr. Roger Rogalski is a welcomed addition to the experienced team. He has been actively practicing in the South Lake Tahoe as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, specializing in Sports Medicine for over twenty-five years.

Out of Control Juvenile Triggers Temporary Lockdown at Calaveras High School |

San Andreas, CA....From the Calaveras Sheriff's Dept..."On 11-13-18 at about 1251 hours CCSO Deputies were dispatched to Calaveras High School in San Andreas for a report of an out of control juvenile being aggressive on campus. It was reported that the juvenile possibly had a knife. The Sheriff's Office was informed that the school was placed on lock down as a precautionary measure. Deputies have been on campus and the juvenile has been contacted. No knives or other weapons were located on the juvenile. The situation is being resolved and there is no ongoing threat to students or staff."

Calaveras County Reaches Settlement Agreement of $25,400,000 with PG&E for 2015 Butte Fire Damages |

San Andreas, CA...Today, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors agreed to settle the County’s claims against PG&E for damages suffered as a result of the 2015 Butte Fire. After more than two and a half years of information exchange, expert analysis, litigation, and mediation, both PG&E and the County have accepted a “mediator’s proposal” of $25,400,000 for all County claims and liabilities arising from the 2015 Butte Fire. The parties attended three substantive mediations, and after the final day of mediation, JAMS mediator Michael Ornstil made the mediator’s proposal.

Father Sent to State Prison for Killing Young Son in DUI |

San Andreas, CA...On November 9, 2018, in Calaveras County Superior Court, the Honorable Judge Susan Harlan, sentenced Tyler Nichols to 15 years to life in state prison for the August 2, 2016, second degree murder of his four year old son Jace. Mr. Nichols, 33, of Pine Grove, was driving with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit with Jace in the backseat of his car. Due to his level of intoxication, Mr. Nichols left the roadway and crashed his car into a tree. Sadly, Jace died later as a result of injuries he suffered from the collision.

4,000 Ballots Left to Count Before Election Results are Complete |

San Andeas, CA...From the Calaveras Elections Office..."All polling place results are in and all vote by mails received in our office by 5:00 pm today are included in the current results. There are roughly 4,000 ballots in our office left to count. This includes vote by mail and provisional ballots received at the polling places, over the counter ballots received after 5:00 pm today, and CVR ballots received. We are continuing to count vote by mails received in the mail through Friday, November 9th as long as they were postmarked by Election Day , November 6th.

San Andreas, CA...NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors shall conduct a public hearing at 9:30 a.m., or shortly thereafter, on Tuesday, the 4th of December, 2018 at the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Government Center, 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas, CA. The hearing is being called by the Board of Supervisors for the purpose of soliciting citizen’s views to set priorities for the potential submission of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to the State Department of Housing and Community (HCD) in 2018. Citizen participation is encouraged throughout the grant process, the requirements for which are explained in Section 7080 of the State Community Development Block Grant program regulations.

LEAD AGENCY: Calaveras County Planning Department, 891 Mountain Ranch Rd., San Andreas, CA 95249. 2018-052 Zoning Amendment and Agriculture Preserve Contract No. 363 for Mark Connolly Mark Connolly filed an application to establish a California Land Conservation Contract / Ag Preserve No. 363 for 176.01 acres located off Burson Road directly east of the Southworth Road and Burson Road intersection in Burson. APN: 048-025-034, 50 acres, and 050-002-120, 126.01 acres, are located in a portion of section 32, T04N, R10E and a portion of sections 4 and 5, T03N, R10E, MDM. In conjunction with the Ag Preserve, the subject property must be rezoned from the current Unclassified (U) zone district to the Agriculture Preserve (AP) zoning signifying the land is restricted by the Williamson Act.
