Explosion at Quartz Mine Marijuana Grow, One Hospitalized and Marijuana Seized

Mountain Ranch, CA...On 1-26-19 at approx. 0805 hours CCSO Dispatch received multiple reports of an explosion in the area of the 6000 block of Quartz Mine Road in Mountain Ranch. Upon arrival to the area Deputies were directed to a property by neighbors who heard the loud noise and people yelling. An outbuilding was found to have been demolished from an explosion. While Deputies were conducting their investigation and attempting to locate subjects on the property, Mark Twain Medical Center reported that a 41 year old female had arrived at the hospital emergency room with burns. A CCSO Explosive Ordinance Device Team (aka Bomb Team) Deputy along with members of the Marijuana Enforcement Team responded to this incident. Evidence of mixed light and indoor marijuana cultivation were discovered on this property. An investigation is ongoing in regards to the marijuana. 1000 marijuana plants and 136 pounds of processed marijuana were seized.

Mountain Ranch, CA...William Warren Schmiett Born Nov. 24, 1952—died Dec. 11, 2018. Bill made 66 trips around the sun. A native Californian, Bill was born in Griffith Park in Los Angeles County, and later moved as a young child with his family to Sunnyvale, CA. Bill spent most of his adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Calaveras County. He and his wife moved full time to Mountain Ranch in 2001, were burnt out during the Butte Fire in 2015, and relocated to Mokelumne Hill in 2017. After travelling to Mexico over several years, Bill became enamored with the Mexican people and culture, as well as becoming fluent in Spanish. Bill was creating a lovely retreat home for himself and his wife in El Pescadero, BCS Mexico.

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Chili Tuesday is happening January 22nd at the Moke Hill Town Hall!! Doors Open at 5:30pm. MET Team Eradicates an Indoor Grow in Mountain Ranch

Mountain Ranch, CA...On 1-16-19 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana cultivation at a residence in the 9000 block of Wendell Road, Mountain Ranch. Upon arrival deputies detained the solo occupant of the residence. One of the outbuildings on the property was found to have been converted for indoor marijuana cultivation.
