San Andreas Fire Protection District Honors firefighters! Honors Presented During a Dinner on Dec. 9 |
Posted by: thepinetree on 12/11/2017 09:32 AM

San Andreas Fire Protection District on Saturday honored district personnel for their service. The top awards of the night went to two seasoned captains who hold down full time jobs outside the fire service yet still somehow find the time to respond dozens of times a year – sometimes dozens of times a month – to emergency calls in their community. San Andreas Fire Chief Don Young singled out Capt. Brian Santos and Capt. Susan Young for their unpaid service to the district. Santos works full time as an ambulance paramedic in Stockton. Young works for the U.S. Postal Service. Yet both of them don their fire gear and respond when needed, often in the middle of the night when they would otherwise be sleeping.

Nobles County, Minnesota...The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was notified about one of our recent arrestees that fled a traffic stop in Minnesota. The Sheriff’s Office was informed that on 11-7-17 at about 0130 hours, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper conducted a traffic stop on Interstate I-90 in Nobles County for expired California registration on a Ford Expedition. The State Trooper noted the smell of marijuana about the vehicle with numerous duffle bags inside. The driver, Peter Vue (age 24) denied consent to search the vehicle and fled on foot when questioned further. He was not captured at that time. 227 pounds of marijuana were seized from the vehicle. Troopers suspect that Vue was travelling from California to the Saint Paul, Minnesota area. A warrant was issued for Vue’s arrest and he was later taken into custody in Ramsey County.

CCWD Moves Forward with $3.75 million Pretreatment Facility |
Posted by: thepinetree on 12/01/2017 07:28 AM
|
San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday November 21, the CCWD Board of Directors awarded a $3.4 million contract to R.E. Smith Construction of Newcastle to build the Jenny Lind Water Plant Pretreatment Project, which will help ensure safe, reliable water service to more than 10,000 people living in the greater Valley Springs area. In 2015, the devastating Butte Fire incinerated more than 52,000 acres of the Calaveras River Watershed, along with more than 900 structures. In the aftermath of the fire, ash and sediment began eroding from the denuded hillsides and are continuing to be washed into tributaries of the Calaveras River. After storms, the river looks like chocolate milk as it carries massive sediment loads into New Hogan Lake. The quality of water flowing into New Hogan Reservoir has been significantly degraded, and these negative impacts will continue to affect the river for decades to come. CCWD’s water treatment plant is just downstream from Hogan and provides safe drinking water for the residents of Jenny Lind, Rancho Calaveras, La Contenta and Gold Creek. The poor water quality has created major challenges and expenses for CCWD’s water treatment plant facility and has, at times, overwhelmed the plant’s existing filtration systems and rendered the plant inoperable at times during major storm events.
