BOS NEWS....The New Jail has 28 Acres of Land to Call Home

San Andreas, CA....As expected today, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of 28 acres in San Andreas for the home of the New Jail. There have been extensive negotiations over the last few months to reach an agreement on the purchase. The final price has not been disclosed but there has been agreement on an arbitration process to reach a purchase price. The county has agreed to pay at least $1.9 Million. The negotiations have reached the point necessary to allow the grant process to move forward...

Board of Supervisor's to Discuss New Jail, Increase in Building Permit Fees, VESTRA Contract, Behavioral Health, Lamphier-Gregory Contract and More on Tuesday Morning

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday March 11th at 9am for their weekly meeting. Some of the agenda items being discussed will be is a Resolution authorizing application for the new jail construction Grant; Resolution approving an amendment to the agreement between Calaveras County and Behavioral Health, Inc. for In-patient Psychiatric Hospital Services to increase the total amount from $75,000 to $150,000 for the period 7/1/07 to 6/30/08; There will also be a Minute Order approving the extension of the contract between the County and VESTRA to continue to provide the tasks for the current countywide land use layer as well as developing or editing non-land use GIS layers, for an additional amount not to exceed $15,600.00 which will be reimbursed by the CCOG utilizing a grant received by Cal-Trans; After the regular meeting they will adjourn for lunch then move over to Town Hall for Study Session at 1:30pm on Environmental Management then at 2:30pm there will be a joint meeting between the BOS and the City of Angels City Council regaring general plan updates. San Andreas, CA… The fabulous student actors from both Toyon Middle School and Calaveras High School have put on a wonderful play production “Seussical” after the creative Dr. Seuss book Horton Hear a Who. The play tells the story of Horton the Elephant who, on the fifteenth of May in the Jungle of Nool, hears a small speck of dust talking to him. It turns out the speck of dust is actually a tiny planet, home to a city called "Who-ville", inhabited by microscopic-sized inhabitants known as Whos……

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is sponsoring a Health Career Fair at Toyon Middle School for all 8th graders on March 21, 2008. The purpose of the fair is to help develop productive careers by developing and identifying goals for high school and post secondary academic paths. There are 265 8th graders at Toyon Middle School who are participating in the Fair. As of today there are 29 booths representing health care careers, including some of the areas first responders including air and ground ambulance and sheriff’s officers. The hospital alone has over 80 vocations that will be represented...

Let the Studying Begin..."Driveway Slopes" Study Session Update #1

San Andreas, CA...A full house is on hand for the County Study Session on driveway slopes this afternoon. One of the initial changes to come out of this meeting that is a slight variation to the outcome of the last meeting at the EPFD Firehouse in Arnold. In that meeting Building Official, Jeff White stated that existing homes that were damaged would be allowed to be rebuilt if they were done so in a "Like for Like" manner. This is now in question. County Staff said that CAL-Fire had an issue with this so the matter of rebuilding damaged structures has been forwarded onto the State Attorney General's office for clarification...

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Planning Commission is back in action on Thursday March 6th for a morning meeting at 9am. There are three Public Hearings on the agenda. The Carson Hill Rock Products is asking for an extension of time Project 98-05 Mining Use Permit and Reclamation Plan; Jack Kautz of the Murphys Oaks tentative subdivision is requesting a General Plan Amendment to the Murphys-Douglas Flat Community Plan to change land use from Commercial to Single Family Residential for 14.4 acres; and Castle and Cook of the Copper Calley Ranch Project is requesting approval of a parcel map to divide 4,350 acres into 3 parcels for future Single Family Residential 5 acre Parcels.
