Mountain Ranch, CA...Timothy John Schlenz was born on June 6th 1962 and passed away on June 7 2016 after a battle with alcoholism. Tim was living in San Andreas, CA at the time of death, but spent the majority of his life in Mountain Ranch, CA. Tim was born and raised in Sunnyvale, CA to Tony and Adele Schlenz. From a young age, Calaveras County was a huge part of his life, where he would go up to his family’s cabin in Columbia. Butte Fire Recovery Hazard Tree Removal Along Public Roadways |

San Andreas, CA...The Butte Fire which started on September 9, 2015 not only destroyed 549 homes and 368 outbuildings, it also damaged or destroyed over 5800 trees that now pose a danger to the traveling public. With the Debris Removal Program now complete, Calaveras County will begin the next phase of clean up. This will include identifying, removing, and mitigating hazardous trees along County maintained public roads within the Butte fire burn area. The trees that will be assessed are located within the County right-of-way (R/W) or on adjacent private property

Authorize the Board Chair to execute a Professional Services Agreement between Calaveras County and Tetra Tech, Inc for Arboricultural and Tree Removal Monitoring Services due to the Butte Fire Incident for an amount not to exceed $1,205,000 and a term ending June 30, 2018. Approve the Professional Services Agreement between the County of Calaveras and Ascent Environmental for preparation of the Environmental Impact Report for the Medical Cannabis Cultivation and Commerce Ordinance for an amount not to exceed $172,127 with a term ending December 31, 2017. Adopt a Resolution supporting a conservation easement proposal for the California Department of Conservation's Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program for Oak Canyon Ranch and enter into an Agreement between the County and the Airola 2015 Revocable Trust for Limited Indemnification and Performance of Conditions Subsequent to County Resolution. Six Local Students Awarded Career & Technical Training (C&TT) Scholarships for 2016 |

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) awarded Career and Technical Training scholarships to a total of six high school students during recent award night events. Three Calaveras High School students, two Bret Harte High students and one student from Mountain Oaks will each receive $1,500.

Gerald Michael Osmer 1946 - 2016 |

San Andreas, CA...Gerald Michael Osmer was born September 21, 1946 in Watsonville, CA. This proud son of the Pajaro Valley graduated from Watsonville High School and after graduation enlisted in the Army in 1966. Thanks to a gift with languages, he learned Turkish at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey and was stationed in Turkey during his service. Gerald, known to all as Gerry, was eventually transferred to Fort Meade, Maryland where he met Betty Janet Osmer (nee Garuti), who would become his wife of 47 years. Upon honorable completion of his service, Gerry returned home and attended college at UC Santa Cruz, later putting himself through law school by working as a loader in the lettuce fields of his native Watsonville and Salinas. Gerry passed the California Bar exam in 1979, and eschewing private practice, went directly to work in the service of the people of Monterey in the Public Defender’s Office. He would work as an attorney for 30 years, during which time he tried more than 150 jury trials, including multiple capital cases. Over the course of his lengthy legal career, Gerry defended residents of Santa Cruz, Monterey, Salinas, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties, helping them weather the darkest hours of their legal battles.... |

CAL FIRE Suspends Outdoor Residential Burning |

San Andreas, CA...As drought conditions continue to increase fire danger in the region, CAL FIRE has suspended all burn permits for outdoor open residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. This suspension takes effect June 13, 2016 and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris including branches and leaves. “As the days get longer, our outdoor activities will increase. Everyone can help reduce the threat of wildfire by remaining extra vigilant of how activities are being done,” said Unit Chief Josh White. Chief White continued, “TCU is staffed and ready for rapid response to serve the community. Working together we can enjoy the summer days ahead.”

San Andreas, CA...Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) is pleased to report Mark Twain Healthcare District has achieved designation as a Certified Healthcare District. As public agencies, California’s Healthcare Districts have well-defined legal obligations for conducting business in a transparent and responsible manner. To be designated as a Certified Healthcare District, a District must demonstrate compliance with Best Practices in Governance as defined by ACHD. Compliance areas include transparency, ethics, reporting, purchasing, conflict of interest, requesting public funds, and executive compensation. These Best Practice criteria address the obligations that Healthcare Districts have with respect to conducting business in manner that is transparent to the public being served.
