Business Community Turns Out For Mixer At New MTMC Heart Center

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center hosted the February Chamber mixer at their new Heart Center. Introduced and welcomed was Cardiologist Dr. Courtney Virgilio. MTMC rolled out the red carpet for the event with great food and even gifts for attendees. State Senator Tom Berryhill was also in attendance and some of you may not know he is now a local resident having moved from Ceres to Twain Harte. San Andreas, CA...The 2015 Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will be back in action next Tuesday. Some of the agenda items are:Approve amendments to Conflict of Interest Codes for Vallecito Union School District. Adopt a Resolution approving the Second Amended and Restated Central Sierra Economic Development District Joint Powers Agreement and authorizing the Board Chair to sign on behalf of the County. Receive the 2014 Annual Report of the Calaveras County Fish & Game Commission. Adopt a Resolution supporting CALNET Broadband projects in Calaveras County. These items and many more will be discussed next Tuesday along with the every exciting public comments section of the meeting. The full agenda is enclosed....

PAWS Announces the Death of Beloved Asian Elephant Wanda

San Andreas, CA...The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) announced the death on Feb. 12 of much-loved Asian elephant Wanda at the ARK 2000 captive wildlife sanctuary in San Andreas, California. She was humanely euthanized on Wednesday, following a long history of arthritis and foot disease, the leading reasons for euthanizing elephants in captivity. At age 57, she was among the oldest Asian elephants in North America. "Every elephant at PAWS is special, but Wanda stood out for her adventurous spirit. She will be very much missed," said PAWS president Ed Stewart. "I'm proud we were able to give her a more natural and enriched life at the PAWS sanctuary for nearly 10 years."

Attendees were treated to a delicious buffet dinner served by the Pickle Patch and had the opportunity to purchase artistic creations via live and silent auctions. A no-host bar was available as well as several high-value raffle basket items....

(Updated) Early Morning Accident Takes Life Of Anna Carter Of Mountain Ranch. Valley Springs Man Arrested For Manslaughter

Mountain Ranch, CA....Early this morning at approximately 1:30am William T. Bolin, 20 of Valley Springs was driving a 1988 Toyota Pickup while intoxicated westbound on Swiss Ranch Road east of Miller Ranch Road at approximately 50 mph. Due to his intoxication he lost control of the Toyota and it overturned and collided with a wooden pole. None of the occupants were wearing their seatbelts. One passenger Anna Carter of Mountain Ranch sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
