Mark Twain Medical Center participates in National Healthcare Decisions Day Free Information available from April 11th- April 19th

San Andreas, CA, April 6, 2015- Mark Twain Medical Center, (MTMC) along with other national, state and community organizations, are leading a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making—an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16 as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD). As a participating organization, MTMC is providing information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with California state laws. Beginning Saturday April 11th through Sunday April 19th, MTMC is welcoming the public throughout the day to the main lobby and the Out Patient Lab with free information about advance care planning and advance directive forms....

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday the father & son allegedly bat wielding duo of Jeffrey Scott Newby (43 years old) & Mike Patrick Newby (18 years old) were arraigned on their charges in Judge Healy's courtroom. The defendants at times seemed almost unaware of the seriousness of the charges facing them. They refused council and sought to represent themselves in their upcoming attempted murder trial. Judge Healy had to eventually remove the father from the courtroom with his son so the father couldn't influence the son in a manner detrimental to his legal rights. After the father was removed the son still held to the belief that he should represent himself in court even after Judge Healy counseling him otherwise...

Zachariah Collom Elected PEG Commission Chair

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Administrative Representative Zachariah Collom, who represents county government on the PEG Commission, has been elected by PEG Commission board members to chair the board during 2015. The election took place during a Commission meeting held March 30 at the county library. Collom is a resident of San Andreas. During the same meeting, Catherine Lambie, a Wilseyville resident who represents District 2 on the seven-member Commission, was elected vice chair...

CCWD Holds The Line On Rate Increases

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors voted unanimously Wednesday March 25 to postpone a rate increase scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2015. This decision will keep monthly water rates at $56.78 and sewer rates at $86.16 instead of increasing rates to $61.89 and $90 per month respectively. The Board reached its decision after reviewing reports from staff that pushed back the planning and construction timelines of several projects that are part of the District’s Capital Renovation and Replacement (R&R) program. All of the revenue generated by rate increases in 2013 and 2014 is reserved exclusively for the Capital R&R program....

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Connie Sullivan, 53 From San Andreas lost her life in an accident near Mokelumne Hill. The accident occurred at approximately 3:15pm and Sullivan was driving her 1991 Dodge in the southbound traffic lane of SR-49 at an unknown speed when, for an unknown reason, she allowed her vehicle to travel to the right and off the paved portion of the roadway. The Dodge traveled down the steep embankment and overturned. After the collision, it came to rest on its roof facing in an Easterly direction off the roadway, and down the embankment...
