San Andreas, CA...Last night was outgoing Clerk Recorder Karen Varni's last election rodeo. We would like to thank Karen for always being helpful on Election Nights. District 5 has a new Supervisor. Darren Spellman is ahead in a very hard fought race. Angels Camp looks like it will have two City Councilman. Stuart Raggio was the top vote draw in the City and Greenhorn Creek Resident Steve Difu is running 8 votes ahead of Mayor Jack Lynch...

Traffic Update...Bear Fatality on Hwy 49 Near Moke Hill |

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Crews are still scene of a vehicle vs bear accident just south of Moke Hill on Hwy 49. According to CHP the bear was 4-5 years old. The bear was struck by a jeep just before 9pm tonight... |

San Andreas, CA....On October 29, 2010 the Calaveras County Employees participated in the Third Annual Stone Soup Food Drive event. Dressing up in costumes, department “themes” and competition brought all of the County employees together to celebrate Halloween and support the Food Bank. Employees, this year outdid themselves – The Stone Soup Food Drive brought in 3,553 pounds of food to The Resource Connection Food Bank, $1,335 in monetary donations and many donated their furlough hours to volunteer at the Food Bank...

The monthly Open Garden Day Event featuring fall plant sale items will be held at the County Demonstration Garden from ten am to pm one pm on Saturday, Oct 23. Japanese maples will be available for sale. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer fall gardening questions from 10 am to 2 pm. Handouts will be available specializing in spring meadow flowers and bulbs blooming year round. Changes To The City - County - CCOG JPA Move Forward |

San Andreas, CA...On a 5-0 vote the Board voted to move changes to the joint powers agreement between the City of Angels Camp, County of Calaveras and Calaveras County Council of Governments moves forward. In the risk of making a very complex issue overly brief what the County and City hope to clarify is that most projects with a planning and development component where possible come under the purview of the County or the City. The intent of these actions will be to focus the Calaveras County of Government on their core mission of securing funding and writing grant applications to secure funding for transportation related projects withing their area of focus...

San Andreas, CA...As league play entered high gear for the 2010 football season the Calaveras Redskins sent a message that they are here to play for the Mother Lode League title. The visiting Summerville Bears had to take the somber bus ride back down Hwy 49 on the end of at the losing end of the 46-14 game. Calaveras Unified Collects over 3,000 Pounds of Food for Food Bank |

San Andreas, CA...Thanks to the fantastic efforts of students and staff during the week of September 20th, Calaveras Unified School District collected and donated 3346 pounds of food to the Food Bank. The districtwide food drive, along with having designated Community Resource Ambassadors at each site to help connect students and families to community resources, are all part of CUSD's ongoing work to better serve the good people in our community...
