San Andreas, CA...The 3rd annual Calaveras Wine, Cheese and Olive Festival is back bigger and better than ever hosted at the Metropolitan in San Andreas, CA! Sept 14 starting at 4:00 PM $25 per ticket in advance, $30 at the door if available. Attendee receives a commemorative wine glass and glass holder plate and can taste all the food and wine they wish. There will be 3 live bands inside and out at the Metropolitan Theater in San Andreas. There will be a number of local restaurants there serving free hors d'oeuvres for all attendees. Tickets available at Gooney's Bar & Grille, Pizza Factory & the Chamber of Commerce Office all of which are in San Andreas or online at www.sanandreasrotary.com. Proceeds will benefit Calaveras Meals on Wheels.

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce held its fourth annual State of the County Breakfast on Friday, September 6, 2019 at The Metropolitan in San Andreas. Doors opened at 7:00am with the program from 7:30am till 9:00am. This event served as a forum to highlight Calaveras County’s accomplishments over the last year and discuss goals for the future. San Andreas – Local high school students are getting the inside scoop on current career opportunities in the Mother Lode through this year’s Career Technical Education (CTE) project presentations. The first of six CTE presentations, a seminar on Health Care Careers took place Wednesday, September 11 at Calaveras High School (CHS). Guest speakers were Mark Twain Medical Center’s Chief Nurse Executive and Vice President of Patient Care Services Katherine McCoy and (no relation) General Surgeon and Chief of Staff Dr. Andrew McCoy.

CCWD Drinking Water Sources Still Clean, but Harmful Algal Bloom Found in Forest Meadows Effluent Pond

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Water District recently conducted testing for harmful algal blooms (HABs) in all water supply sources for its drinking water systems, and the results showed no HABs were present. Tests were also performed in a reclaimed water storage pond on Sandalwood Drive in Forest Meadows, and those results were initially reported incorrectly by CCWD to be absent for harmful algae. Upon further analysis, it was determined the Forest Meadows effluent pond does contain harmful algae and is not safe for human or animal contact. The prevalence of HABs is a relatively new development in the area, and the District is working with the Calaveras County Department of Environmental Health and the State Water Board to better understand the causes and respond appropriately. CCWD is releasing this information to correct to the press release it sent out on September 5, 2019, and apologizes for any confusion caused by initial reports regarding the Forest Meadows effluent storage pond.
