San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is sponsoring a Health Career Fair at Toyon Middle School for all 8th graders on March 21, 2008. The purpose of the fair is to help develop productive careers by developing and identifying goals for high school and post secondary academic paths. There are 265 8th graders at Toyon Middle School who are participating in the Fair. As of today there are 29 booths representing health care careers, including some of the areas first responders including air and ground ambulance and sheriff’s officers. The hospital alone has over 80 vocations that will be represented...

Let the Studying Begin..."Driveway Slopes" Study Session Update #1

San Andreas, CA...A full house is on hand for the County Study Session on driveway slopes this afternoon. One of the initial changes to come out of this meeting that is a slight variation to the outcome of the last meeting at the EPFD Firehouse in Arnold. In that meeting Building Official, Jeff White stated that existing homes that were damaged would be allowed to be rebuilt if they were done so in a "Like for Like" manner. This is now in question. County Staff said that CAL-Fire had an issue with this so the matter of rebuilding damaged structures has been forwarded onto the State Attorney General's office for clarification...

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Planning Commission is back in action on Thursday March 6th for a morning meeting at 9am. There are three Public Hearings on the agenda. The Carson Hill Rock Products is asking for an extension of time Project 98-05 Mining Use Permit and Reclamation Plan; Jack Kautz of the Murphys Oaks tentative subdivision is requesting a General Plan Amendment to the Murphys-Douglas Flat Community Plan to change land use from Commercial to Single Family Residential for 14.4 acres; and Castle and Cook of the Copper Calley Ranch Project is requesting approval of a parcel map to divide 4,350 acres into 3 parcels for future Single Family Residential 5 acre Parcels. San Andreas, CA.....San Andreas, CA: Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital has announced the April 1, 2008 opening of a new Occupational Health Program in Angels Camp supporting Calaveras, Amador and Tuolumne businesses. The program will be located at the Creekside Professional Building at 1300 Kurt Drive and is supported by St. Joseph’s Occupational Health Center, bringing years of experience to our foothill communities. The Occupational Health Program is designed to reduce the risk of injuries to workers and promote overall health in the workplace.....

Board of Supervisors to Discuss New Jail and the Slippery Slopes at Tuesdays Meeting and More

San Andreas, CA...The Board of Supervisors will be meeting on Tuesday March 4th at 9am. To top off the meeting, there will be a Minute Order authorizing a Budget Transfer to increase budget revenues and expenditures in the amount of $62,215.00 for payment of invoices for client-reimbursed building check and inspection services in excess of approved budget. This requires a 4/5 vote; The new SEIU contract will be discussed; Sheriff Downum will speak regarding a Resolution authorizing application for a Jail Assembly Bill 900 Construction Grant; There will also be two Study Sessions. The first one at 10:30am regarding the Sheriffs Department Staffing Analysis and Strategic Plan. The 2nd will take place after lunch at 1:30pm on the Driveway Slopes. County Council will be speaking on possible action approving an agreement to purchase real property for the construction of a new jail. The Full Agenda is enclosed for your viewing pleasure....
