San Andreas, CA...Patient convenience and satisfaction are critical goals for Dr. Lonnie Smith, the new Chief Medical Officer at Mark Twain Medical Center. Dr. Smith joined the MTMC Leadership Team in November with responsibilities that include overseeing operations of the hospital’s five Rural Health Clinics and three Specialty Care Centers. Clinic administration is just one of Dr. Smith’s multiple roles as CMO. He is also the senior physician executive working with the administrative team and medical staff to recruit and retain doctors, contract for specialty services, oversee several departments including Physical Therapy, X-Ray, Laboratory – and more. The clinics began serving local communities over 20 years ago and have been a major focus in Dr. Smith’s first months at MTMC.

Hwy 26 Damaged & Closed At Higdon Road In West Point. Detour Through Mokelumne Hill

West Point, CA...CHP is reporting that Hwy 26 is closed at Higdon Road in West Point. Caltrans is estimating the roadway to be closed for an extended period, several days or more, the entire roadway has washed away. SR-26 is closed from the Amador/Calaveras County Line and Higdon Rd in West Point. The only detour available is to use SR-49/26 through Mokelumne Hill.
Three Year Old Swept Away & Drowns In Calaveras River

Valley Springs, CA....On 2/10/17 at approx. 10:59 AM, Calaveras Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a 3-year-old female that had fallen into the Calaveras River. According to statements, the 3-year-old, her mother, and an infant male, were walking on a dirt trail in the area of the River of Skulls Nature Trail, approx. ¼-mile below Hogan Damn, when the 3-year-old fell down an embankment into the river and was swept away.
San Andreas, CA... Olive trees will be the featured topic at the Mother Lode Bonsai Club’s demonstration on Saturday, March 4. Sam Adina of Stockton will be the sensei, or instructor for the free public presentation, which follows the club meeting at 10 a.m. in the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas.
