CCWD Makes Preparations for PG&E Power Outages

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Water District is doing everything in its power to minimize potential negative impacts to customers as a result of PG&E’s planned implementation of its Public Safety Power Shutoff Program, or PSPSP. In 2018, PG&E rolled out its Community Wildfire Safety Program (CWSP), which included planned power outages under the PSPS program. If extreme fire danger conditions threaten a portion of the electric system serving a community, it may be necessary for PG&E to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety. June 24 – June 28, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., July 1, 2 and 3, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., July 8 – July 12, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This scheduled road closure of North Railroad Flat Road from Noble Road to Wells Fargo Station Road is taking place under a utility encroachment permit with Volcano Telephone to underground the existing aerial facilities. Emergency vehicles and residents who live in the construction area will be granted access as needed.

CAL FIRE Suspends Burn Permits in Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus and Eastern San Joaquin Counties

San Andreas – After another wet winter and above average snow pack, warming temperatures and winds are quickly drying out the abundant annual grass crop. The increasing fire danger posed by the high volume of dead grass and hotter, drier conditions in the region is prompting CAL FIRE to suspend all burn permits for outdoor residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus and Eastern San Joaquin Counties. This suspension takes effect at 8:00 a.m. June 17, 2019 and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves.

San Andreas, CA...The 2019 season of CalaverasGROWN Certified Farmers Markets opens Thursday, June 13th in the UCCE Master Gardeners Demonstration Garden at Government Center, 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas. By popular demand, this year the market will be open weekly. The main market will take place on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 4 -6pm (June 13th, July 11th, August 8th, September 12th and October 10th) featuring local growers and vendors, live music from Vintage Vibrations and family-friendly activities for kids. Calaveras County Public Health Issues Heat Advisory to Residents

San Andreas, CA...June 11, 2019, Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency - Public Health Division issues a heat advisory for the County. Temperatures of 95 degrees or more will continue over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, “Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to stay cool in hot weather.”
