San Andreas, CA...Robert C. Lawton was welcomed in as Calaveras County's New CAO at a reception ahead of the Supervisors meeting this morning. County employees and members of the community filled the Supervisors Chambers wishing him well as he takes the helm of county government....

Murphys, CA...Murphys Grade Road was closed and traffic detoured on French Gulch Road until 1pm. There were no serious injuries involved. There were however minor injuries to some passengers and the driver of the pickup sustained a fractured right wrist. The injuried parties were taken to MTSJ Hospital. Apparently the driver of the pickup lost control and hit the front left side of the school bus. There is a larger picture enclosed. The students...

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital today awarded an $18,475 Catholic Healthcare West Community Grant to the Take It To Heart Foundation, a local not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote a heart-healthy lifestyle in the Mother Lode. The award will be used to implement their ‘Family Fit’ project in all Calaveras and Tuolumne County elementary schools. The ‘Family Fit’ project helps families establish healthier eating habits, live a more active lifestyle, increase fitness and self-esteem, and have fun together. ....

Mokelumne Hill, CA...We were passed along some news that cuts are ahead for local Ambulance service from American Legion due to hard economic times. The Mokelumne Hill Unit will be phased out completely and the hours of an additional Unit will be curtailed. The call volumes have been lower than expected so they feel cuts are necessary...

Bear Valley, CA...After two days of charging down hills and through the gates they were passing out awards on Sunday afternoon. The Bear Valley Sports Education Foundation hosted another great Far West Race at Bear Valley Mountain Resort this last weekend. Numerous members of the Bear Valley Race team received awards. Also receiving awards were members of the Dodge Ridge Ski Team, Sierra Summit and the Yosemite Ski Team. Bear Valley race team skiers including Sawyer Alford who took 6th in his division. Several members of the Cashman Family from the Pinecrest area took home top honors for their divisions. Jordan Cashman had the fastest overall times among all skiers which ranged from ages 6~18, on Sunday. The skier with the fastest combined times on Saturday was Mikael Proper, who lives in the Phoenix Lakes area and drives over to Bear Valley every weekend to train...
