Registrations Open For Youth Tennis Clinics |

Murphys, CA...Registrations are now being accepted for a series of Youth Tennis Clinics to be held in Calaveras County beginning June 11. Organized by Angella Woods, a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) since 2003, the program is open to all junior players, ages 4 to 17, with a special emphasis on current and aspiring high school athletes. The sessions will be held at Bret Harte High School, Angels Camp, and the Wintercreek Tennis Facility in Murphys.

$213,349 Granted to UC Davis Researchers for Bovine Methane Emissions |

Sacramento, CA...CDFA selected a research project titled "Small Dairy Climate Change Research: An economic evaluation of strategies for methane emission reduction effectiveness and appropriateness in small and large California dairies" for a grant award of $213,349. The research team is led by California Dairy Research Foundation in collaboration from University of California, Davis researchers.

Bret Harte FFA 2018 Floriculture State Champions |

Angels Camp, CA....The Bret Harte FFA Floriculture Judging team was announced the 2018 California State Champions on May 5th, 2018. This year three teams from the Bret Harte FFA traveled to San Luis Obispo to compete in the contests of Poultry Evaluation, Milk Quality & Dairy Foods and Floriculture. Teams have been practicing since January putting in countless hours, hard work and dedication to prepare for the State FFA Finals. Our Floriculture Team secured the state title with teams members Kaegen Moore (Junior), Zoe Hartsinck (sophomore), Jessica Goodspeed (junior) and fourth high individual in the state Madelyn Ruff (sophomore).

Golfer Nick Kristoff Signs Collegiate Letter of Intent at Bret Harte |

Altaville, CA...Nick Kristoff signed his official letter of intent to pursue his athletic and academic interests next year at the collegiate level at a celebratory ceremony held at Bret Harte Union High School on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Senior Nick Kristoff signed with Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, where he will be playing golf. Kristoff, in his fourth year on the varsity boys golf team, greatly contributed to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship teams in 2016 and 2017, as well as three Mother Lode League championship titles in 2016, 2017 and now 2018. On May 3, 2018, Kristoff led his teammates to their first place finish at the Mother Lode League end of season tournament clinching their perfect season with a match record of 12-0.

Emailed Threat Received by Calaveras County Office of Education |

Angels Camp, CA...Today, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a report that staff at the Calaveras County Office of Education (CCOE) received a generalized emailed bomb threat. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the email threat that did not mention a specific school or school district. The Angels Camp Police Department is aware of the email, and while we do not consider this a credible threat, as a precautionary measure there will be an increased police presence on our school campuses.

The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the email threat that did not mention a specific school or school district. The following message is being sent to parents/students from CCOE:

Angels Camp, CA...Bret Harte will be holding a ceremony to celebrate student athlete Nick Kristoff’s signed letter of intent to pursue his athletic and academic interests at the collegiate level on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Senior Nick Kristoff signed with Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, where he will be playing golf. Kristoff, in his fourth year on the varsity boys golf team, greatly contributed to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship teams in 2016 and 2017, as well as three Mother Lode League championship titles in 2016, 2017 and now 2018. Yesterday, Kristoff led his teammates to their first place finish at the Mother Lode League end of season tournament clinching their perfect season with a match record of 12-0. The team will compete in the Section Division V championship match on Monday, May 7 attempting to bring back another Section crown.
