Christian Family Learning Center and Foothill Community Church Step Up for the Food Bank ~By John Hamilton with Photos and Video

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/07/2010 08:10 AM
San Andreas, CA...Some of our local school children and churches are really going all out to help our local charitable organizations fulfill their mission during these tough economic times. Members of the Christian Family Learning Center Student Council spent part of their Friday filling food bags and seeing how our local Resource Connection Food Bank functions. They also brought with them thousands of paper grocery bags and egg cartons that they can use. Food Bank Director said that each bag they have to purchase is a significant cost to them so if you can save your paper grocery bags it really helps them stretch their food dollars. Foothill Community Church also made a $2,000 donation and Sarah Wilson presented the check during their visit...

Press Release Regarding Mark Twain Union Elementary School District Ending Budget~by Kathy Northington, Superintendent

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 11/05/2010 12:45 PM
At a special board meeting on October 27, 2010, Mark Twain Union Elementary School District Board of Education reviewed their unaudited actuals for the 2009-2010 school year. Unaudited actuals is the official name for closing of the books for 2009-2010 school year. As a result of an increase in revenues and a decrease in expenditures, the ending balance came out to $721,612.65. This was surprising news to the District, but at the same time good news since we ended with more money than expected. ......

Each year we have been able to help over 120 students by providing them with a voucher for over $100 which has to be used at K-Mart to purchase clothes. The funding for the vouchers is generated through the generous donations from our community....

Calaveras Unified School District Fall Op Ed---2010~by Mark Campbell

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 10/27/2010 02:22 PM
San Andreas, CA...Do we focus on what we don’t have? Or, instead, do we choose to focus on what we are doing with what we do have and what we have control over? Yes, we could cite the sobering statistics that reflect our reality. We could point out that since 2008 we have lost 383 students and our revenue allocation from the state has dropped by $871 per student. We could illustrate the significant cuts to programs already implemented (layoffs of teachers and support staff, reduction in administration, elimination and reduction of some music and sports programs) and rail against the relative injustice of the cuts .....
