New Year’s Advice In "The Way To Wealth" From America’s Grandfather Ben Franklin

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/03/2017 08:55 AM
Philadelphia, PA..America’s first self help author and motivational best seller was Benjamin Franklin. Not only that but he was America’s first publishing self made millionaire. He made enough that before he left to be our first Ambassador to France he loaned the Continental Congress money to help fund the revolution. He rose from humble beginnings where he himself was an indentured servant. The entire concept of freedom and individual rights was entirely different then. Not only did slavery exist in some of the colonies and throughout much of the world, many people regardless of race lived at least part of their lives as indentured servants to learn a trade or were never truly free. Press freedoms did not exist and his brother was jailed for writings in The New England Courant that criticized the government in Massachusetts.

'The Past & Present Of The Utica Water & Power Authority," A Lecture By Michael Minkler

Posted by: News_Desk on 12/29/2016 02:47 PM
Angels Camp,CA...Join us on Sunday, January 8th at 1:30 p.m. There will be light refreshments and the lecture is between 2 - 3 p.m. in the Museum's Carriage House. Utica Water and Power Authority (UWPA) dates to the Gold Rush when miners created a system of reservoirs, ditches, and flumes to bring snow runoff from the high country down to the gold mines. At the dawn of the hydroelectric age in the early 1900s, powerhouses were built in Murphys and Angels Camp utilizing the water to deliver the first electricity to local residents and to the Utica Mine. PG&E acquired the system and owned it until 1995 when Angels Camp, the Union Public Utility District, and the Calaveras County Water District formed UWPA to purchase all water rights, facilities, and infrastructure related to the water system and the two powerhouses. UWPA has owned and operated the system since then and its water system remains the sole source of water for communities and irrigators from Murphys to Angels Camp.

San Francisco, CA...Not long ago, I had dinner with a group of friends from college. One of the big topics of conversation was Medicare, for which we’ll all be eligible in the next several years. (Farewell, callow youth!) And one of the biggest questions about Medicare was, “How much is it going to cost me?”
