Murphys, CA...We would like to invite everyone to come to the OPEN HOUSE of the Old School House in Murphys, Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10 am to noon. We are interested in gathering any and all information that will help to enhance the building and continue sharing memories from former students, teachers and or residents.

San Andreas, Calif. - Oct. 12, 2017 – Bob Diehl, President and CEO of Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC), has been named to the advisory committee of the University of the Pacific’s new Physician Assistant Studies Program, Dignity Health announced today. Diehl brings more than 25 years of executive health care leadership to the committee, and further solidifies a partnership between the university and MTMC.

San Andreas, CA...School staff intervened in an altercation yesterday involving multiple students. Law enforcement was called to assist. Students, staff and counselors are working together through this unfortunate event. This is an ongoing investigation and no further comment will be provided.

Angels Camp, CA...On September 27th, the Bret Harte FFA Chapter participated in the FFA Mountain School opening and closing contest at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. The Calaveras FFA Chapter hosted the contest not only for Bret Harte FFA, but also Sutter Creek FFA, and Sonora FFA. The competition consisted of three different levels beginning with the Greenhand Teams (freshman students only), the Open Teams (mixture of Sophomore, Juniors & Seniors) and the Chapter Officer Teams (the six elected officers of the chapter). The contest requires a team of officers to recite the opening and closing ceremony from memory and they are judged on presentation, poise and accuracy of speech.

It is as true today as it was a generation ago: Fruits and vegetables lead to a healthier lifestyle. September is “Fruits and Veggies: More Matters Month” – a national call to action designed to encourage Americans to eat more fruits and veggies. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 12.7 million children and adolescents ages 2-19 are obese, and a contributing factor is unhealthy eating habits.

Murphys, CA...On September 23rd Bret Harte, Calaveras, and Summerville FFA chapters attended the 21st annual Concours De Elegance at Ironstone Vineyards along with the 4H Organizations. The event hosted over 300 antique vintage cars as well as vintage trailers, motorcycles, and wooden boats in an effort to raise money for the FFA and 4H organizations statewide. FFA members educated the public about the FFA organization, California Agriculture and specific leadership opportunities available to them through agricultural education.

Angels Camp, CA...Register Now for the 4th Annual Angels Camp Gold Run on September 24th. A 5K/10k with a 1 Mile kids Fun Run. Route travels through the historic Gold country town of Angels Camp CA. Proceeds benefit Mark Twain Elementary. Enjoy the Sierra Foothills on a 5k/10k race through the historic town of Angels Camp. Proceeds benefit the students of Mark Twain Elementary School. The race will kick off with a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run followed by the 5k & 10K races. All races begin in downtown Angels Camp at the Visitor’s Center. After race festivities and award at Utica Park until 2pm with music, food, drinks, games and raffle prizes. More details to come! Hope to see you there! Tickets range from $10-$35.
